Here are several new promotional pictures and clips from “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People,” adaptation of British writer Toby Young’s memoir.

In this hilariously funny fish-out-of-water tale, “How to Lose Friends & Alienate People” tracks the outrageous escapades of Sidney Young (Simon Pegg), a smalltime, bumbling, British celebrity journalist who is hired by an upscale magazine in New York City. In spectacular fashion Sidney enters high society and burns bridges with bosses, peers and superstars. The film is based on Toby Young’s memoir of the same name and also stars Kirsten Dunst, Danny Huston, Gillian Anderson, Megan Fox, Max Minghella and Jeff Bridges. Directed by Robert Weide, the film will be released by MGM Distribution Co. on October 3, 2008. Continue Reading…

New Simon Pegg’s “How to Lose Friends” Poster

Posted by Allan Ford 20 August, 2008 Comments Off

A poster for the upcoming Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz) comedy “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People” has appeared online, featuring the entire cast standing around Pegg.

In the movie, Sidney Young (Pegg) is a disillusioned intellectual who both adores and despises the world of celebrity, fame and glamour. His alternative magazine, Post Modern Review, pokes fun at the media obsessed stars and bucks trends, and so when Young is offered a job at the diametrically opposed conservative New York based Sharps magazine its something of a shock! It seems Sharps editor Clayton Harding is amused by Young’s disruption of a post-BAFTA party with a pig posing as Babe. Thus begins Sidney’s descent into success – his gradual move from derided outsider to confidante of starlet Sophie Maes – and a love affair with colleague Alison Olsen, that will either make him or break him. Gillian Anderson Blames “Dark Knight” For Poor “X-Files” Takings

Posted by Allan Ford 3 August, 2008 (0) Comment

Gillian Anderson Actress Gillian Anderson is blaming the popularity of “The Dark Knight” for “The X-Files” film’s low box office grossings.

The “X-Files: I Want To Believe“, starring Anderson and David Duchovny, earned a disappointing $10.2 million in its opening weekend (26-27Jul08) in the U.S., while “The Dark Knight” took an impressive $75 million in the same weekend. And Anderson is convinced that her movie – based on the hit TV show – is suffering because so many people are flocking to see the Batman sequel. She says, “It’s (The X-Files film) had a bit of a rough time in the States. It’s opening against one of the highest grossing movies, Batman.

“People in the States are so used to lots of CGI (computer-generated imagery), action and sex and we don’t really off a lot of that in this film.”

New shots from the upcoming supernatural thriller sequel “X-Files: I Want to Believe,” appeared online.

When a group of women are abducted in the wintry hills of rural Virginia, the only clues to their disappearance are the grotesque human remains that begin to turn up in snow banks along the highway. With officials desperate for any lead, a disgraced priest’s questionable “visions” send local police on a wild goose chase and straight to a bizarre secret medical experiment that may or may not be connected to the women’s disappearance. It’s a case right out of The X-Files. But the FBI closed down its investigations into the paranormal years ago. And the best team for the job is ex-agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dr. Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), who have no desire to revisit their dark past. Still, the truth of these horrific crimes is out there somewhere… and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it!

The Chris Carter-directed film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25th.

Gillian Anderson in Martha Gellhorn biopic

Posted by Fiona 1 July, 2008 (0) Comment

Gillian Anderson is set to star in and produce a biopic about journalist Martha Gellhorn (1908-1998).

Gillian Anderson - Martha Gellhorn

“Martha Gellhorn was one of the most respected journalists of this century, and I thought Caroline’s biography effectively encompassed her rich and complex life,” Anderson told Variety.

Gellhorn’s journalism career spanned from the Spanish Civil War to Vietnam.

Her private life was filled with love affairs and marriages. She suffered a failed marriage to writer Ernest Hemingway.

Gillian Anderson’s company, Fiddlehead Prods., picked up Gellhorn: A Twentieth-Century Life, a 2004 biography by Caroline Moorehead, which covered the life of the legendary war correspondent.

British playwright and screenwriter Sharman Macdonald is penning the feature adaptation.
