Paul comes from the team that brought us Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
Or most of the team: Writer-stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are still aboard, but director Edgar Wright has been replaced by Greg Mottola. And that substitution makes all the difference.
Not that Mottola doesn’t know his way around a joke: He proved that he did with Superbad and Adventureland. But he lacks the slightly nastier edge that Wright brought to the work. Universal Pictures has released a new red band movie trailer for the upcoming sci-fi comedy Paul.

Synopsis: Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) reunite for the comedy adventure Paul as two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America’s UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever.

For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul (Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a top-secret military base. For reasons unknown, the space-traveling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town—a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Frost).

Universal Pictures has released the first full length movie trailer for sci-fi adventure comedy Paul.

Greg Mottola (The Daytrippers, Superbad, Adventureland) directed the movie which follows two British comic-book geeks traveling across the U.S. encounter an alien outside Area 51.

Paul stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who also wrote the script, and an alien voiced by Seth Rogen.

The film also co-stars Jane Lynch, Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Blythe Danner and Jeffrey Tambor.

Simon Pegg in Hot Fuzz

Simon Pegg has announced that he will not, as previously reported, be appearing in Quentin Tarantino‘s “Inglorious Bastards.”

Much to our mutual disappointment, I won’t be appearing in QT’s forthcoming Inglorious Bastards due to insurmountable scheduling difficulties. We really tried to make it work but in the end, it just was not possible without severe ramifications elsewhere.
