ARTHUR CHRISTMAS Nominated for Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and Annie Awards

The 3D, CG-animated family comedy Arthur Christmas, an Aardman production for Sony Pictures Animation, added a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Animated Feature to a growing list of accolades. The year’s best reviewed animated movie now playing in wide release, Arthur Christmas also won a nomination from The Broadcast Film Critics Association for a Critics’ Choice Award on Tuesday and was named Best Animated Feature by the San Diego Film Critics on Wednesday.

This latest recognition follows nominations for 6 Annie Awards, including Best Animated Feature and Best Writing, from ASIFA-Hollywood, announced on December 5. Since opening in the UK on November 11 and in North America on November 23, Arthur Christmas has earned tremendous critical acclaim, registering a solid 92% Fresh on the popular RottenTomatoes.com movie review website. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/arthur_christmas/

Sony Pictures and Aardman Animations have unleashed six new posters for Arthur Christmas, their 3D adventure which arrives in theaters over the Thanksgiving holiday. The film  follows the titular character (James McAvoy) as he teams with Santa’s dad (Bill Nighy) to deliver gifts to one girl who was passed by when Saint Nick’s high-tech operation made its first round. (Jim Broadbent and Hugh Laurie also offer their voices, as Santa and Santa’s Enterprise-esque ship operator, respectively.)

Andrew Adamson to Direct Mister Pip With House Star Hugh Laurie

Hugh Laurie (House) has been cast in an adaptation of the best-selling New Zealand author Lloyd Jones novel Mr. Pip. Andrew Adamson, Shrek 2 and Chronicles of Narnia, has written the screenplay and will direct and produce the film.

Laurie will play Mr. Watts, the only white man on a foreign island who volunteers to teach school as the natives defend their land from invaders. He reads the students Charles Dickens’ classic novel, Great Expectations,  linking especially with a 13-year old girl, Matilda.

Universal Pictures has released the second trailer for the upcoming CG/live-action family film, Hop.

Blending state of the art animation with live action, Hop is a comedy about E.B. (voiced by Russell Brand), the teenage son of the Easter Bunny. On the eve of taking over the family business, E.B. leaves for Hollywood in pursuit of his dream of becoming a drummer. He encounters Fred (James Marsden), an out-of-work slacker with his own lofty goals, who accidentally hits E.B. with his car. Feigning injury, E.B. manipulates Fred into providing him shelter, and Fred finds himself with the world’s worst houseguest.

Arthur loves everything to do with Christmas; indeed, he is the only one in his family still captivated by the magic of the holiday. Laurie will play Arthur’s older brother Steve, heir to the reins, a cool, incredibly capable guy who has given the North Pole high-tech efficiency, military-style precision. Broadbent plays Santa, who pictures himself as the guy in charge at the North Pole, but is now more of a figurehead as the operation has outgrown him.
