Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell are in talks to play a villain in “Iron Man 2” for director Jon Favreau and Marvel Entertainment.

According to Variety, Mickey Rourke is currently in talks to play the villian (Crimson Dynamo) opposite Downey Jr.’s hero in this new action adventure. And Sam Rockwell is set to play Justin Hammer, a multibillionaire businessman and a rival of industrialist Anthony Stark.

Jon Favreau Talks Iron Man 2

By Allan Ford | Oct 2, 2008 | Interview (0) Comment

Director Jon Favreau (Iron Man)

On Wednesday, Director Jon Favreau (Iron Man) joined a live chat on the LA Times‘ website, where he answered questions about the upcoming “Iron Man 2.”

Jon Favreau (JF): We’re playing with who the villain should be and what we should incorporate from the comic book. And how it will lead into The Avengers.

Question: What stage are you in right now?

JF: I’m working with Justin Theroux, a writer. He’s writing the first draft of the script. I’m working with a storyboard artist as well as designing the costumes for good guys and bad guys.

JF: Now that Marvel is making its own movies, every movie has to fit into the Marvel universe. The Avengers incorporates not just Iron Man, but Thor, possibly the Hulk and traditionally Captain America as well. As it is, it’s scheduled Thor will come out the same summer as Iron Man 2 and The First Avenger: Captain America will come out a few months before Avengers. All the films have to come together to create a consistent universe. That’s very important to everyone involved.

Question: This summer, two of the best films of the season are superhero movies. Both Iron Man and The Dark Knight work because the directors [you and Christopher Nolan] honored the source material. Why do you think it’s been so hard for so many previous directors of superhero films to understand that’s the only approach that will work? Continue Reading…

Jon Favreau returns for “Iron Man 2″

By Fiona | Jul 10, 2008 | Movie News (0) Comment

Jon Favreau had earlier criticised studio Marvel for setting an “unrealistic” release date for the superhero sequel.

Robert Downey Jr.

The director said he had been surprised by Marvel’s announcement that the superhero sequel will be released on April 30, 2010.

“Neither Robert Downey Jr. nor I were consulted about this and we are both concerned about how realistic the date is in light of the fact that we have no script, story or writers hired yet.”

He recently told that the stars of the original film are in negotiations to reprise their roles, saying:

“When it comes to the cast of the sequel there is no need to worry, it looks like everyone from Robert Downey to Gwyneth Paltrow is back for more.”

Rumours later surfaced that Jon Favreau would not return to direct the film – The director is said to be at odds with Marvel Studios over his salary for the upcoming sequel.

After guiding the superhero film to box office success, Favreau has allegedly requested a pay increase for 2010′s “Iron Man 2.” However, Marvel has been unable to match Favreau’s demands and believes that a franchise sequel will be a commercial success with or without the director of the first film.

But Favreau has now reportedly agreed a contract after being offered a more lucrative deal by Marvel boss David Maisel, according to Deadline Hollywood Daily.

Robert Downey Jr. will also return for “Iron Man 2,” which is scheduled for an April 2010 release.
