The first Abrams-directed “Star Trek” film, grossed $385 million on $150 million budget.

The movie at this time is still untitled and there’s still no word on story.
J.J. Abrams Producing Samurai Jack Movie
J.J. Abrams, and Bad Robot are co-producing the popular Cartoon Network cartoon “Samurai Jack“
Samurai Jack was a four-time Emmy award winning animated series that ran on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004 and followed the adventures of the lone warrior Jack in his quest to find a way to go back in time. In his journey, he faced all manner of robotic and alien enemies, which he adeptly dispatched while pursuing his mission.
According to Fred Siebert, head of Frederator Films, the deals took a long time to close, but resulted in the involvement of both J.J. Abrams, a huge Samurai Jack fan, and Samurai Jack creator Genndy Tartakovsky in this upcoming film.
Samurai Jack will be a 2D/stereoscopic 3D production, in order to maintain the look of the original show. Is being distributed through Paramount Pictures for a big screen release, with a $20 million budget.
Matt Damon Turned Down Star Trek’s George Kirk Role
J.J. Abrams confirmed to MTV that Matt Damon turned down the role of George Kirk (James T. Kirk father) in his Star Trek movie.
Abrams said:
“I did [approach Damon], but not for the role of James Kirk. I went to Damon for the role of Kirk’s father, and he declined in the most gracious and understandable and logical of reasons. We lucked out with Chris Hemsworth, and he did a great job.”
Abrams added,
“The decision was made very early on to have actors who were not necessarily the most famous but the most right for the role.”
Director Kenneth Branagh recently cast the actor as the lead in Marvel’s “Thor” movie.
Mission: Impossible IV Gets Writers
“Mission: Impossible 4” is definitely moving forward, Paramount Pictures and producers Tom Cruise and JJ. Abrams have set Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec to write the screenplay.

Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum
Josh and Andre have previously worked four seasons with Abrams as the executive producers of ABC’s series “Alias” and they will script “M:I 4” based on a story Abrams wrote with them.
Abrams said:
I’ve been looking forward to working with Josh and Andre again for years. Their sense of balance between character and action is wonderful, which I know is hugely important to Tom as well. We’re off to an exciting start, so, as usual, fingers crossed.
Sources said that Tom Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, will certainly be involved in an onscreen capacity.
Mission: Impossible 4 Officially Confirmed for 2011!
Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams have agreed to co-produce “Mission: Impossible 4″ the sequel, which is set for a 2011 release.
“Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing,” Abrams said earlier. “I am incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as a producer.”
The only problem with the production of “Mission: Impossible 4″ is negotiating the schedules of Cruise and Abrams.
Some are surprised to see Cruise returning to the studio, considering that it was Paramount who gave him the boot back in 2006. If you remember correctly after MI:3 Cruise left Paramount Studio after it’s chief Sumner Redstone ousted him after a 14 year partnership. A lot of people believed the decision had to do with Cruise’s behavior in the media at the time, which seemed to dampen his favor with audiences. Cruise has been hanging out at United Artists ever since.
Abrams is set for a Star trek sequel, while Cruise is working on a untitled film (formerly called Wichita) for 20th Century Fox that will be directed by James Mangold and co-star Cameron Diaz.
J.J. Abrams Producing “Mission: Impossible 4″
“Mission: Impossible 3” and “Star Trek” director J.J. Abrams tells TV Guide via Spoiler TV that he’s set to produce “Mission: Impossible 4“
“I am incredibly honored that Tom [Cruise] has invited me back as a producer on ‘Mission: Impossible 4′. Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing” said Abrams who directed 2006’s “Mission: Impossible 3″.
Earlier this year, Cruise revealed that he would reprise his role of Ethan Hunt in the film.
Yet with a $134 million from the domestic market and $397.9 million worldwide, almost triple its $150M budget, the franchise has been highly profitable for the studio so interest in a fourth outing comes as no surprise.

Star Trek Sequel In The Works
Before JJ Abrams’ “Star Trek” premiere on May 8, 2009, Paramount studio, so confident in success of the movie, is already moving forward with a sequel.
Screenwriters Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and “Lost” producer and writer Damon Lindelof will pen the screenplay.
J.J. Abrams is onboard to produce the follow-up alongside Bryan Burk but no decision has been made yet on whether Abrams will return behind the camera for the sequel.
Story is still in the early stage but Orci, Kurtzman and Lindelof will wait to hear from the fans before deciding which way to go next. They are aiming to deliver their script by Christmas for what would likely be a summer 2011 release.
“There’s obviously a lot of hubris involved in signing on to write a sequel of a movie that hasn’t even come out yet. But we’re so excited about the first one that we wanted to proceed.”
“Obviously we discussed ideas, but we are waiting to see how audiences respond next month. With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin. But with a second, you have the opportunity to explore incredibly exciting things. We’ll be ambitious about what we’ll do,”
said Damon Lindelof.
