Ridley Scott to Direct Alien 5!
Variety is reporting that Ridley Scott will direct “Alien 5” movie.
It is Ridley Scott’s first return to the Alien franchise after 30 years. His movie spawed three sequels, 1986’s “Aliens” (directed by James Cameron), 1992’s “Alien 3″ (directed by David Fincher) and 1997’s “Alien: Resurrection” (Jean-Pierre Jeunet). There has also been two Alien vs. Predator movies.
“Alien”, a new 20th Century Fox film eyes a 2011 release and is set to be a prequel to the 1979 science fiction horror film starring Sigourney Weaver. It will precede that film, in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them.
Jon Spaihts (”Passengers,” “Shadow 19″) has been hired to write the screenplay. He is also rewriting “The Darkest Hour” for “DayWatch” director Timur Berkmambetov, and writing “Children of Mars” for Disney.
