The Joseph Kosinski’s sci-fi thriller Oblivion, which has had Tom Cruise devoted from the start, began completing its cast puzzle last week with Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough and Olga Kurylenko in supporting roles. Kurylenko-Riseborough

Jessica Chastain has backed out, but Olga Kurylenko came in. Two more actresses have joined the cast of director Joseph Kosinski‘s new sci-fi movie with Tom Cruise attached to star. Former Bond girl Kurylenko is replacing Chastain, who was originally cast in the lead last year, and W.E.’ star Andrea Riseborough is also joining film crew. Kurylenko tested for the wife role in August along with Chastain, Olivia Wilde and Noomi Rapace, but was brought back after Chastain had to drop to Kathryn Bigelow’s Osama Bin Laden film.

Hayley Atwell, Diane Kruger and Kate Beckinsale

Horizons or Oblivion – well, it really doesn’t matter, I’m sure you already know what we’re talking about.

Joseph Kosinski’s upcoming sci-fi pic is definitely worth our full attention, and not just because we have Tom Cruise on board.

Now we have three great actresses in the running to star in one of two lead female roles opposite Cruise in the whole thing. And, we’re talking about Kate Beckinsale, Diane Kruger and Hayley Atwell!

Jessica Chastain, Olivia Wilde, Noomi Rapace, Brit Marling or Olga Kurylenko in HORIZONS

By Fiona | Aug 26, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Noomi RapaceWe’re now all talking about Horizons and not about Oblivion. But don’t get confused, that’s the same project we already wrote about, with Tom Cruise already set to star as the male lead.

In case you still don’t remember, the story of this sci-fi thriller is set in an apocalyptic future with humans living in clouds above the uninhabitable Earth. Doesn’t sound interesting to me at this moment, but thanks to the latest rumors, it could be…

Apparently, Olivia Wilde, Jessica Chastain, Noomi Rapace, Brit Marling and Olga Kurylenko are all in contention for the upcoming Joseph Kosinski’s movie, and one of them could be the next Julia, Cruise’s character fiancee before Earth was invaded, or Cruise’s “right-hand man and lover” Victoria.

At this moment still no details on whether they’re all testing for the same part, different parts, or whatever.

Let me just remind you that Cruise is on board to play a soldier relegated to staying on the planet to work on drones that seek out and destroy a savage alien life form.

Tom Cruise Will Star in Oblivion/Horizon

By Fiona | May 21, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Tom CruiseTom Cruise will star in Oblivion. Or, Horizons. Whatever the title is, it’s the same thing. And it will be directed by Tron: Legacy helmer, Joseph Kosinski.

And, although I’m not really impressed with the whole thing, I do admit that it sounds huge. I mean, the project is now set at Universal with a budget of $100 million. Yeah, definitely a huge one.

Director Krasinski has great team on board for this one. Oscar winning scribe William Monahan (The Departed) penned the screenplay, while Karl Gajdusek was hired to rework the Horizons script.

Oblivion, the 128-page illustrated novel, will be released in Summer 2011 and will feature prose, combined with over 40 fully painted landscape renderings. It will be distributed worldwide through Random House.

According to Deadline, the story takes place in an apocalyptic future where humans have been forced to live in clouds above the uninhabitable Earth below.

Tom Cruise

So, what’s happening with Joseph Kosinski’s sci-fi film Horizons? Well, apparently, things are moving forward when it comes to this sci-fi film, and now we have Universal Pictures in negotiations for the project with Tom Cruise attached to star in the leading role.

Yeah, I’m sure you already know that Disney, Warner Brothers, Twentieth Century Fox and Paramount were all interested in Horizons once upon a time.

Horizons was originally titled Oblivion, and it was set-up while Kosinski was still in production on TRON: Legacy.

Hollywood Trusts First Time Male Directors with Big Budget Films

By Nick Martin | Feb 23, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Hollywood

THR just edited an article’s emphasize on modern trend in Hollywood–hiring first time guys to direct big budget movies. And even more, here is another story about directors and a movement in the business, telling us neither of them are women.

Women are keeping out of the big budget directing business all together. Film Studios won’t trust women directors who haven’t made high-budget feature films but will trust a male who has just made a short and/or a commercial?

Tron: Legacy Review

Tron: Legacy Wallpaper

Tron: Legacy almost operates as a litmus test for how much we will tolerate in our tent-pole filmmaking. Just how much bad dialogue, poor acting, inexplicable plotting, and emotionally-vapid characterizations will we accept as long as we’ve been convinced that the film is “cool”? How little actual content will we demand in exchange for $300 million light shows disguised as motion pictures? We casually accept seemingly intentional mediocrity in our franchise films, from The Flintstones to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, holding our nose but making these films into smash hits.

I am reminded of Patrick Stewart’s monologue towards the end of Star Trek: First Contact. “The line must be drawn here. This far, and no further.” If we as moviegoers accept this artless, soulless confection as a suitable example of big-budget filmmaking, then we deserve everything we get in the following years. The apparent absence of any attempt at quality renders even the (only occasionally) pretty pictures impotent and dull. And make no mistake; Tron: Legacy is a stunningly dull would-be movie…read more [The Huffington Post]
