The Vampire’s Assistant Poster

Posted by Allan Ford 4 August, 2009 (0) Comment

Cinematical has debuted the official teaser poster for “The Vampire’s Assistant,” the movie based on the book series of the same name by Darren Shan.

The Vampire's Assistant

Synopsis: “The Vampire’s Assistant,” previously known as “Cirque du Freak” tells the frightening tale of a boy who unknowingly breaks a 200-year-old truce between two warring factions of vampires. Pulled into a fantastic life of misunderstood sideshow freaks and grotesque creatures of the night, one teen will vanish from the safety of a boring existence and fulfill his destiny in a place drawn from nightmares.

14-year-old Darren (Chris Kelly) was like most kids in his suburban neighborhood. He hung out with his best friend, got decent grades and usually stayed out of trouble. But when he and his buddy stumble upon a traveling freak show, things begin to change inside Darren. That’s the exact moment when a vampire named Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly) turns him into something, well, bloodthirsty.

Newly undead, he joins the Cirque Du Freak, a touring sideshow filled with monstrous creatures from a snakeboy and a wolfman to a bearded lady (Salma Hayek) and a gigantic barker (Ken Watanabe). As Darren flexes his newfound powers in this dark world, he becomes a treasured pawn between the vampires and their deadlier counterparts. And while trying to survive, one boy will struggle to keep their brewing war from devouring what’s left of his humanity.

The film is directed by Paul Weitz (American Pie, Down to Earth, In Good Company, About a Boy), stars John C. Reilly (Magnolia, Chicago, The Aviator, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story), Ray Stevenson, Josh Hutcherson, Salma Hayek, Willem Dafoe and Ken Watanabe.

Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D

New Line was cool enough to send Cinematical this exclusive first look at the new poster for Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D (click on the image above for a larger version), starring Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson and Anita Briem.

Based on the classic Jules Verne story, Journey follows a scientist on a quest to find his missing brother. Joined by his nephew and a mountain guide, the three soon discover a fantastic and dangerous world at the center of the earth. The film was directed by visual effects wiz Eric Brevig, and was shot using 3-D technology.

The first trailer for Journey apparently screened before IMAX prints of Beowulf recently, and fan reaction was pretty positive. If there ever was a story that could use a good re-tooling for a new 3-D generation, this is definitely it. Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D is set to arrive in theaters on July 11.
