Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids

One of the biggest box office success stories last year (grossing $288 million worldwide from just a $32 million budget), Bridesmaids, actually was a cute comedy too.

Of course, that’s why Universal wants to move forward with a sequel. Well…ok. Wait a second, they want to do it without Kristen Wiig?

Good luck, guys! I mean, she was the best part of the movie!

Melissa McCarthy and Ryan Lee

This could be something interesting, indeed. I mean, at least we’ll have a chance to watch Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy and Super 8 star, Ryan Lee together on a big screen.

Of course, it’s going to be a comedy set up at Universal, but unfortunately, at this moment – we’re talking about yet untitled project.

Still, one thing is for sure, it will be both written and directed by Judd Apatow!

But the rest of the cast list also deserves our attention, because it includes Megan Fox, Albert Brooks, Lena Dunham, Chris O’Dowd, Charlene Yi and Wyatt Russell, along with Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann who are set to reprise their characters of husband and wife from Apatow’s Knocked Up.

Megan Fox, Albert Brooks, Knocked Up

Megan Fox and Albert Brooks are in talks to join Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up spin-off, starring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann.

Brooks would play Rudd’s character’s father while Fox’s role is currently unknown.

Rudd and Mann are reprising their characters of husband and wife from Apatow’s Knocked Up in a new story by the writer-director. We’ll see if Apatow is really making substantial change in narrative viewpoint from a previous storyline based around the activities of the series’ principal leading roles.

Apatow is also producing the pic with Barry Mendel and Clayton Townsend. Universal’s vice president of production Erik Baiers is supervising the project for the studio.

Knocked Up Spin-Off to Include Members Of The Original Cast

By Fiona | Mar 5, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd in Knocked Up

Judd Apatow is a busy guy, but it looks that he really enjoys working with some familiar characters. So no wonder we already learned that he’s in charge for both writing and directing a new movie that will be based on characters played by Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd in Knocked Up.

As you know the movie is scheduled for release June 1, 2012, so consider this new feature as some kind of a spin-off (if we could even call it that way).

So, since we have this kind of messy-update, let’s clear things out and see what Apatow had to say about the whole thing in an interview with Screen Junkies. First of all, writer/director explained that “his episodic background in television is why he’s so fond of telling different stories with the same characters, adding that we’ll definitely be seeing other characters from the original ‘Knocked Up’ world when the film hits theaters on June 1, 2012.”
