DIRTY DANCING Remake Announced
Lionsgate is set to produce Dirty Dancing, based on the classic 1987 film of the same name, it was announced today by Joe Drake, co-COO of Lionsgate and President of the Motion Picture Group. The original film’s choreographer Kenny Ortega (HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT), will direct. Debra Martin Chase (THE PRINCESS DIARIES, THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS) and Kenny Ortega are producing. The studio is in talks with Eleanor Bergstein, the writer and co-producer of the original film, regarding her involvement in the new film in a producing capacity. Alli Shearmur, President of Motion Picture Development and Production, is overseeing the project on behalf of Lionsgate.
Troika Pictures has Announced Joel Schumacher’s The Hive among Others
Troika Pictures produces and finances genre films mostly for a young audience, focusing on thrillers, comedies and action films – Joel Schumacher’s suspense thriller The Hive is certainly one of them.
Penned by Rich D’Ovidio (Exit Wounds), the story follows an emergency operator who must confront a killer from her past to save a young girl’s life.

MTV debuted Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” movie trailer at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” will offer Jackson fans and music lovers worldwide a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the performer as he developed, created and rehearsed for his sold-out concerts that would have taken place beginning this summer in London’s O2 Arena. Chronicling the months from April through June, 2009, the film is produced with the full support of the Estate of Michael Jackson and drawn from more than one hundred hours of behind-the-scenes footage, featuring Jackson rehearsing a number of his songs for the show. Audiences will be given a privileged and private look at Jackson as he has never been seen before.
Cast Set For ‘High School Musical 3′
Disney has finished its deals and will reunite all the key cast members for the feature film release “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” reports the trades.
Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman are locked to return in the big screen incarnation.
Written by returning scribe Peter Barsocchini, “HSM3″ revolves around seniors Troy (Efron) and Gabriella (Hudgens) facing the prospect of being separated from one another as they head off in different directions to college.
Joined by the rest of the Wildcats, they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes and fears about their future.
Kenny Ortega, who helmed the two previous telefilms, will helm the movie which is set to go before cameras in the spring. The project is slated for release on October 24th.
