Zac Efron Drives Retro First Poster for THE PAPERBOY
Lee Daniels’ dramatic follow-up to his Oscar-nominated Precious tells the story of a reporter who returns to his Florida hometown to investigate a case involving a death row inmate. The film has a great solid cast of Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman, John Cusack, Zac Efron and David Oyelowo.
John Cusack Set to Co-star in Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy
Sadly, noble ideals can always be perverted, and evil can result even from the pursuit of truth is the conclusion of Pete Dexter’s The Paperboy novel. Luckily, Lee Daniels, director of the Oscar-winning Precious will direct, co-produce and co-write the erotic thriller based on The Paperboy novel.
Also, John Cusack is in a role previously set for Tobey Maguire, who dropped out due to schedule conflict with Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.
Nicole Kidman to Replace Sofia Vergara in Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy
So, it goes like this. Few days ago, we reported that Sofia Vergara is no longer attached to star in the upcoming Lee Daniels‘ project The Paperboy, and today, we’re here for a little interesting update.
According to the latest reports, Nicole Kidman is in talks to replace Vergara, believe it or not! If negotiations work out, Kidman will join the cast that, at this moment includes Matthew McConaughey and Zac Efron.
Ok, I see you’re surprised again. I know, I know, somebody’s missing. And it’s not only Vergara, but also previously announced Tobey Maguire. Unfortunately, Maguire dropped out of the project last week as well.
Let me remind you that The Paperboy is actually an adaptation of Pete Dexter’s 1995 novel of the same name that will center on a reporter and his brother who investigate the events surrounding a murder in order to exonerate a man on death row.
Sofia Vergara Out Of Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy
I like Sofia Vergara. She’s crazy enough to star in almost every Hollywood comedy, but I would love to see her in some other genre as well.
So, for a minute, her involvement in the upcoming Lee Daniels‘ drama titled The Paperboy sounded like a perfect chance for this lovely lady to show us what she knows.
Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen anymore because we’ve just learned she has just dropped out of the film.
As guys from Deadline explained it, the thing with independent films is that they take forever to come together, and when the start date of the movie got pushed back a week, the schedule conflicted with her day job on Modern Family.
By the way, the third season of this show will be getting underway by then, and of course, that one is her first priority, “so once she was made aware of the change in schedule, she had no choice but to pull.” That’s a shame.
McConaughey, Maguire, Vergara, Efron Topline Daniels The Paperboy
In August of the Year 1965, a man named Thurmond Call, who had, even by Moat County standards, killed an inappropriate number of Negroes in the line of duty, was killed himself between the towns of Lately and Thorn, along a county road which runs parallel to and a quarter mile west of the St. Johns River in northern Florida.”
After the critical success of Precious Lee Daniels has been searching for his next project for a long time and it seems that it’s finally taking shape according to above quotation.
Lee Daniels Wants Bradley Cooper, Sofia Vergara, Alex Pettyfer for The Paperboy
We all had a little dilemma about Lee Daniels‘ next project. But now, it looks that we finally have the answer, because according to the latest reports, Precious director is currently rewriting an adaptation of Pete Dexter’s 1995 novel The Paperboy, and that’s not all!
Apparently, Daniels wants Bradley Cooper, Sofia Vergara and Alex Pettyfer to star in it!
That’s definitely an interesting cast for the upcoming thriller that will (according to Vulture) follow “the slacker son of backwater Florida newspaper editor and publisher, gets pulled into his older, big-city reporter brother’s investigation of a rural sheriff’s murder, and whether the death-row inmate convicted of it was truly responsible. Being a Pete Dexter novel, things don’t go smoothly.”
So, it’s not hard to guess that lovely Vergara will play the wife of a death-row inmate, while Cooper would play Pettyfer’s older brother.
Lee Daniels to Direct Anna in the Tropics Movie
Lee Daniels, or, if you prefer, the Precious director, is quite busy guy these days.
He already has two new projects in the pipeline, (Selma and The Butler), and now we had a chance to hear that another one is coming!
Project titled Anna in the Tropics is an upcoming movie based on Nilo Cruz’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway play that won a Steinberg Prize and two Tony nominations.
“This lush romantic drama depicts a family of cigar makers whose loves and lives are played out against the backdrop of America in the midst of the Depression.
Set in Ybor City (Tampa) in 1930, Cruz imagines the catalytic effect the arrival of a new “lector” (who reads Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina to the workers as they toil in the cigar factory) has on a Cuban-American family. Cruz celebrates the search for identity in a new land.”
Lee Daniels’ Selma
You all probably know that Lee Daniels, whose acclaimed drama Precious was a part of this year’s Oscar race, will direct Selma, movie named after the Alabama town that played host to a historic civil rights march in 1965.
We are here to remind you of this upcoming project, and to update news, especially those refering to a cast.
Back in October, Daniels told that:
”It’s a moment in time in Martin Luther King and LBJ’s life around the signing of the Civil Rights. It’s a snapshot of the march. It’s really Lyndon Johnson’s story. Martin Luther King is a part of it, but it’s really the arc of a man that starts out as a racist who is forced to look at himself in the mirror and then ultimately side with King. It’s really a journey of a white cat and how he sneers at tradition and against George Wallace”.
Precious “Precious” Poster
We’ve got a new poster for Lionsgate‘s Sundance 2009 hit “Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire“.
Set in Harlem in 1987, it is the story of Claireece “Precious” Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), a sixteen-year-old African-American girl born into a life no one would want. She’s pregnant for the second time by her absent father; at home, she must wait hand and foot on her mother (Mo’Nique), a poisonously angry woman who abuses her emotionally and physically. School is a place of chaos, and Precious has reached the ninth grade with good marks and an awful secret: she can neither read nor write.
Precious may sometimes be down, but she is never out. Beneath her impassive expression is a watchful, curious young woman with an inchoate but unshakeable sense that other possibilities exist for her. Threatened with expulsion, Precious is offered the chance to transfer to an alternative school, Each One/Teach One. Precious doesn’t know the meaning of “alternative,” but her instincts tell her this is the chance she has been waiting for. In the literacy workshop taught by the patient yet firm Ms. Rain (Paula Patton), Precious begins a journey that will lead her from darkness, pain and powerlessness to light, love and self-determination.
“Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire” is directed by Lee Daniels, from a screenplay by Geoffrey Fletcher based on the novel Push by Sapphire. Also starring Mariah Carey, Sherri Shepherd and Lenny Kravitz
This inspiring film will release in theaters on November 6th, 2009.
