The producers are in talks on a North American deal.
Scorsese was preparing to direct the authorised biography after he finished work on Shine A Light but had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.
Demme previously collaborated with Shangri-La on the Neil Young documentary Heart Of Gold and will meet the Marley family to discuss the project.
Demme said:
“I am truly joyful about being included in this project and by the chance to team up with [Marley's eldest son and executive producer] Ziggy Marley and my good friends at Shangri-La Entertainment”
Ziggy Marley:
“My family and I are very excited to have Jonathan on board. His empathy with my father’s body of work and his unique understanding of the musical documentary form makes me confident that this film will be the ultimate celebration of my fathers’ life.”
Schreiber, Hall Join ‘Wolverine’
CHUD reports that Liev Schreiber (”The Sum of all Fears,” “The Manchurian Candidate”) will play Victor Creed – aka. Sabretooth – in the Gavin Hood-directed “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”.
Schreiber involvement was previously thought to be that of a young Stryker, the villain played by Brian Cox in “X2: X-Men United” who was responsible for Wolverine’s creation.
Instead “Six Feet Under” and “Dexter” star Michael C. Hall is in talks for the role of Stryker, whilst Michelle Monaghan is being sought for Silver Fox.
“Wolverine” tells the story of Wolverine’s epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program.
Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe. The film opens next May.
