Matthew Vaughn to Adapt Two Mark Millar’s Comics?
When you have such a successful project like X-Men: First Class, then it’s just not ok for you to stop thinking about your future projects, right?
So we have no reason to blame Matthew Vaughn for this news – apparently, he’s now looking to direct another comic book property from Mark Millar. Or, are we talking about two new projects?
Confused yet? Ok, here’s the thing. We learned that Vaughn is now interested in two different comic book properties both from writer Mark Millar.
You all know they make such a good team, after all Millar is the creator of Kick-Ass which Vaughn adapted for the big screen. But, let’s get back to those projects.
The first one is Superior, illustrated by Leinil Francis Yu and published by Marvel’s Icon imprint.
The other one is The Secret Service which was unveiled this week by Vaughn, Millar, and artist Dave Gibbons.
Written by Millar and illustrated by Dave Gibbons that one will be released in February of 2012 and is based on an idea by both talents alongside Vaughn himself.
Screenwriter Hired for Mark Millar’s Nemesis
Things are moving forward with the upcoming Tony Scott‘s adaptation of Mark Millar and Steve McNiven graphic novel Nemesis, and we’re here to report that Matthew Michael Carnahan has been hired to write the script for the whole thing!
Carnahan has previously written Lions for Lambs, The Kingdom and State of Play and we guess that he’s the right man for the job.
Here’s quite interesting plot summary for Nemesis:
“CIVIL WAR? Nothing. KICK-ASS? A warmup. What if the smartest, toughest costumed bad ass in the world was totally evil? Meet Nemesis. He’s systematically been destroying the lives of every police chief in Asia, and he’s now set his sights on Washington, DC.
Matthew Vaughn’s Next Film Will Not Be Kick-Ass 2
Ok, this was fast. First we saw some reports with Jane Goldman‘s name in it and these days, when we have her name in a report – we all expect to hear some update on the Kick-Ass story, right?
So, there was The Daily Mail article where it was mentioned that Goldman is currently working on the script for the Kick-Ass sequel.
And, there was a little tweet from Jane Goldman where she explained that, at this moment, that’s not going to happen!
“Saw a few erroneous reports today that I’m currently writing Kick Ass 2 script – sorry if anyone’s disappointed, but not true.
Mark Millar’s Superior Locked Big Hollywood Star
Comic book creator Mark Millar is quite busy these days.
He currently has Nemesis in the works but on the other hand, he already revealed that a director for the big screen adaptation of his Superior comic book will be announced in January.
Thank God for Twitter! Because now we know another thing – Millar’s new project will have a big actor on board, or if you prefer his words:
“Huge News: Superior movie just locked down most high profile actor of 2010. Official release in January”
Jon Hamm has been rumored to star, but, most high profile actor?
Mark Millar to Direct Miracle Park
X-Men meets Trainspotting!? You like that description? We sure you do, and that’s exactly why we’re here today!
Miracle Park is an upcoming and directorial debut from comic-book creator Mark Millar (best known for titles like Kick-Ass and Wanted), so get ready for fresh superhero thriller that is:
“…Set in contemporary Scotland, this dark, unique superhero story focuses on a group of animal rights activists who break into a low-level research laboratory to find a mile-long underground base owned and facilitated by the US government…
Miracle Park breaks all the taboos of superhero cinema and offers a completely new take on the genre…
Mark Millar Wants Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp in Nemesis Movie, Kick-Ass 2 Has Been Greenlit
You can like him, or not, but there are two things about Mark Millar that you just can’t ignore. First – he likes to talk. Second – his comics have been made into good movies – Wanted and Kick Ass of course.
We all had a chance to hear some rumors about Kick Ass sequel, but now, speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, Millar said that the whole project has already been “greenlit”!
“The estimate is Kick-Ass will do 100 to 150 million on DVD based on the American sales, you know, so it’ll end up making a quarter of a billion on a 28 million investment.
So it should be okay!
So the sequel’s greenlit, we can go ahead and do the follow up now, you know. The first made so much compared to what it cost it would be crazy not to.”
Tony Scott to Direct Mark Millar’s Nemesis
What if Batman was the Joker? Well, looks that we’ll soon have an answer on that one, because 20th Century Fox has acquired screen rights to Mark Millar‘s graphic novel, called Nemesis, and, that’s not all!
Tony Scott, best known from titles like Enemy of the State and True Romance is set to direct the project!
Here’s quite interesting official comic description from Marvel: “Civil War? Nothing. Kick-Ass? A warmup. What if the smartest, toughest costumed bad ass in the world was totally evil? Meet Nemesis.
He’s systematically been destroying the lives of every police chief in Asia, and he’s now set his sights on Washington, DC. Between you and me, the police don’t have a chance.”
Kick-Ass Review

I’ve been thinking about what makes Kick-Ass the single best Western action film I’ve seen in maybe a decade and it all comes down to director Matthew Vaughn’s impeccable sense of pacing. Too many crazy action films these days run out of steam by about the halfway mark; you get the best stuff in the first two acts and then act three turns into a slog of tying up story ends and wrapping up character arcs that were stunted beforehand. Vaughn doesn’t just keep the pace up throughout the entire film, he keeps building the pace so that the final action scenes are the biggest, craziest and most fun…read more [CHUD]
Kick-Ass, though, is an evolutionary leap, and the work of a director ready to gatecrash the A-list. If there’s a more entertaining movie this year, then 2010 is going to be a belter.
Vaughn went outside the studio system to independently fund and make Kick-Ass; it was the best move he could have made. Without studio stormtroopers breathing down his neck, Vaughn found the freedom to make a thrilling, hugely violent, darkly funny comic-book flick that didn’t have to pander to toy manufacturers or fast food chains putting pressure on him to pull his punches. Little girl in a superhero costume? Cute. Shifts Happy Meals. Little girl in a superhero costume slicing people’s legs off and saying the C-word? Not so much…read more [EMPIRE]
