Kick-Ass Review

I’ve been thinking about what makes Kick-Ass the single best Western action film I’ve seen in maybe a decade and it all comes down to director Matthew Vaughn’s impeccable sense of pacing. Too many crazy action films these days run out of steam by about the halfway mark; you get the best stuff in the first two acts and then act three turns into a slog of tying up story ends and wrapping up character arcs that were stunted beforehand. Vaughn doesn’t just keep the pace up throughout the entire film, he keeps building the pace so that the final action scenes are the biggest, craziest and most fun…read more [CHUD]
Kick-Ass, though, is an evolutionary leap, and the work of a director ready to gatecrash the A-list. If there’s a more entertaining movie this year, then 2010 is going to be a belter.
Vaughn went outside the studio system to independently fund and make Kick-Ass; it was the best move he could have made. Without studio stormtroopers breathing down his neck, Vaughn found the freedom to make a thrilling, hugely violent, darkly funny comic-book flick that didn’t have to pander to toy manufacturers or fast food chains putting pressure on him to pull his punches. Little girl in a superhero costume? Cute. Shifts Happy Meals. Little girl in a superhero costume slicing people’s legs off and saying the C-word? Not so much…read more [EMPIRE]
Green Lantern Set Photo: Abin Sur’s Spaceship?
Comicbookmovie has gotten their hands on a photo that appears to be from the Madisonville, Louisiana set of Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern and appears to be the spaceship of Abin Sur, the Green Lantern who gives Hal Jordan (played by Ryan Reynolds) his power ring. It looks like it has made a water landing instead of crashing on land as it does in the comics.

Kick-Ass Trailer #3
Lionsgate has released a new trailer for Matthew Vaughn‘s adaptation of the Mark Millar comic book series Kick-Ass.
As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name – Kick-Ass – assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.
First Green Lantern Movie Set Photos
The first on-set photos of Ryan Reynolds at work on the first day of the Green Lantern shoot in New Orleans have gone online at DCUmoviepage and Comic Book Movie.
In the pictures, Reynolds was seen filming his part at a bar called Old Point Bar which was renamed Broome’s Bar in honor of Green Lantern creator John Broome.
Green Latern was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Hal Jordan (Reynolds) introduced in 1959, a second-generation test pilot, is an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur’s spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was “utterly honest and born without fear.”
