J.J. Abrams confirmed to MTV that Matt Damon turned down the role of George Kirk (James T. Kirk father) in his Star Trek movie.

Abrams said:

“I did [approach Damon], but not for the role of James Kirk. I went to Damon for the role of Kirk’s father, and he declined in the most gracious and understandable and logical of reasons. We lucked out with Chris Hemsworth, and he did a great job.”

True GritMatt Damon and Josh Brolin are in discussions to join the next Coen brothers film – remake of the 1969 western classic “True Grit.”

Jeff Bridges is already a member of the cast as Marshall “Rooster” Cogburn, originally played by John Wayne who won an Oscar for this role.

The original “True Grit,” based on the Charles Portis novel, tells the story of U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn and another man in uniform tracking the killer of a 14 year-old girl’s father.

The trailer for Iraq War film “Green Zone” has debuted.

“Green Zone” synopsis: During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission.

Spun by operatives with intersecting agendas, Miller must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil for answers that will either clear a rogue regime or escalate a war in an unstable region. The Informant” is a true story of the highest-ranking corporate whistleblower in US history, with Matt Damon as Mark Whitacre, a rising star at an agri-industry giant who imagined himself to be some kind of secret agent by exposing his company’s price-fixing to the FBI in the 90s. Only Whitacre wasn’t all that he seemed, neglecting to mention to the FBI the $9.5 million he’d siphoned off from the corporate coffers.

Directed by Steven Soderbergh, The Informant! stars Matt Damon as Mark Whitacre, an employee at Illinois-based ADM (Archer Daniels Midland), a company that produces food additives, among other things. Whitacre, a Ph.D. from an Ivy League school, works in biochemistry, but eventually climbs the corporate ladder and finds himself working behind a desk making a very comfortable living. That is until one day, he finds himself in a mess of trouble when the company’s lysine production is threatened by a virus in the bugs used to produce the lysine. Matt Damon will star in supernatural thriller “Hereafter,” Clint Eastwood‘s next producing-directing project for Warner Bros. Pictures, set to begin shooting this fall.

Peter Morgan, who got an Oscar nomination for “Frost/Nixon,” wrote the script. Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, Morgan and Tim Moore are executive producing. Spielberg previously worked as producer on Eastwood’s “Flags Of Our Fathers” and “Letters From Iwo Jima.”
