Randall Wallace To Rewrite McG’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
We already know that McG will direct “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo” for Disney but the news is that the Oscar nominated writer Randall Wallace (”Braveheart,” “The Man in the Iron Mask,” “Pearl Harbor,” “We Were Soldiers“) will rewrite the script penned by Justin Marks (”Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li“) and Bill Marsilii (”Deja Vu“).
This new adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” will tell the origin of Captain Nemo and his submarine warship, the Nautilus. Nemo is a mysterious but noble antagonist in the book, a scientific genius with a thirst for knowledge and a desire for revenge against the forces of imperialism.
The 1954 original “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” was the first live-action film made by Walt Disney, who famously bet his studio on a movie best remembered for the giant squid scene. It became the second-highest grossing film that year and won three Oscars. Captain Nemo played by James Mason and Ned Land by Kirk Douglas.
Four Minute Terminator 4 Trailer and New Pics
A brand new four minute trailer and photos from the highly anticipated “Terminator 4” have been released. Trailer focuses on the scene where John Connor demands the Resistance to abort one of their attacks to save hostages, but gets stripped down of his command instead.
Director McG addressed fans’ disappointment over the PG-13 rating that the film has been given:
We shot an R movie, and at the end of the day we found that if we just cut back one shot of the Marcus character stabbing a screwdriver through the shoulder of one of these thugs it would warrant a PG-13. We thought, “Well, that would be ridiculous to make it tough for kids to go see this movie.” We were inspired by The Dark Knight getting a PG-13 and being a film without any compromises. So we took the rating we got and ran for it. We never had to shoot for a rating. We were liberated by [Warner Brothers president of production] Jeff Robinov from day one, and I give you my word that there’s no way that Christian or Sam or I, for that matter, would shoot a picture aiming for a rating. We never cared. We just shot what we thought was best, and, short of gratuitous gore, which I don’t think furthers the story or furthers the characters, we didn’t really have a problem with it.
Rodriguez’s Predators Movie Gets a Writer
It seems that Robert Rodriguez has found his new writer. According to Bloody-Disgusting, Alex Litvak (writer of Medieval) has been tapped to write “Predators.” It has been described as “The Dirty Dozen in the age of castles, plagues and serfs”, and McG was rumoured to be interested in directing.
Fox has already set a July 7, 2010 release date for the film and BD has learned it will be a sequel, but they are unclear as to whether it is a sequel to the original Arnold Schwarzenegger film or the subsequent Danny Glover follow-up.
No director has been set for the project yet, since it was said that Rodriguez will not be directing, only producing.
