First Julia Roberts’ “Duplicity” Poster

The poster for the upcoming thriller “Duplicity,” starring Clive Owen (Sin City) and Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman), has been released. For full poster click on the image:

In the film, Roberts and Owen star as spies-turned-corporate operatives in the midst of a clandestine love affair. When they find themselves embroiled in a high-stakes espionage game, they discover the toughest part of the job is deciding how much to trust the one you love.

The film is written and directed by Tony Gilroy, the man behind “Michael Clayton,” also stars Tom Wilkinson, Rick Worthy and Paul Giamatti.

“Duplicity” will hit theaters on March 20, 2009.

Director Sydney Pollack dies aged 73

Sydney PollackOscar winning director Sydney Pollack, who made gender-bending comedy Tootsie and acclaimed period drama Out of Africa, has died aged 73.The director and actor, who most recently appeared in Made of Honor, had been diagnosed with cancer around nine months ago.

He died at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by his family, his agent said today.

The Indiana-born film-maker had his biggest hit with the 1985 period piece Out Of Africa, which starred Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. A critical and commercial success, it scooped seven Oscars that year – including landing Pollack the award for best director.

He was also Oscar nominated for helming the Dustin Hoffman comedy Tootsie, in which he also appeared, and the 1969 adaptation of Horace McCoy’s book, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?

Pollack also enjoyed a long acting career that saw him appear opposite some of Hollywood’s biggest names. and in recent years Pollack had turned to producing independt films with late British director Anthony Minghella.

George Clooney – who directed Pollack in Michael Clayton last year, a film Pollack also co-produced. – said today: “Sydney made the world a little better, movies a little better and even dinner a little better”.

George Clooney in ‘Time’ : The Last Movie Star !?

Time hited newsstands today with a George Clooney cover, “The Last Movie Star.” Reporter Joel Stein mixed things up and asked Clooney to his house for dinner, and Clooney actually came.

There is a lengthy interview/profile and a hysterical video of the evening on Time’s website (footage includes Clooney inspecting the living room, Clooney in Stein’s crawlspace). Clooney is up for the Best Actor Oscar this Sunday night for “Michael Clayton.”

AFI Names the Top Ten Films of 2007

The crime tale “No Country for Old Men,” the oil saga “There Will Be Blood” and the legal drama “Michael Clayton” were among critical favorites that landed on the American Film Institute’s list of the year’s 10 best movies.

Also on the AFI’s list, released Sunday, were the jewel-heist story “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead,” the stroke-victim tale “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,” the road drama “Into the Wild,” the pregnancy comedies “Juno” and “Knocked Up,” the animated rodent comedy “Ratatouille,” and the sibling comic drama “The Savages.”

Unlike other film honors, the institute does not rank films or pick one as the year’s best. The filmmakers behind the top-10 choices will be honored at a luncheon Jan. 11.
