Agent Zigzag

Finally some update on Mike Newell‘s upcoming Agent Zizag adaptation!

And this time, we’re here to report that Rowan Joffe, best known for his work on Brighton Rock project, will pen the adaptation of this non-fiction novel based on the book by Ben MacIntrye. This is quite interesting story indeed, so make sure you check out the rest of this report for more details.

Agent Zigzag tells the true story of Eddie Chapman, a pre-war criminal and wartime spy, who, during the Second World War offered his services to Nazi Germany as a spy and a traitor whilst intending all along to become a British double agent. As we said, this project is based on Ben MacIntyre’s book, and here’s a full synopsis of it:

“London Times associate editor Macintyre adroitly dissects the enigmatic World War II British double agent Eddie Chapman in this intriguing and balanced biography. Giving little thought to the morality of his decision, Chapman offered to work as a spy for the Germans in 1940 after his release from an English prison in the Channel Islands, then occupied by the Germans.

Mike Newell

Director Mike Newell is in something that’s described as an “advanced negotiations” to direct a new film adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic Great Expectations.

David Nicholls, the man responsible for One Day project, adapted the script so this would be Newell’s next project with shooting to kick off further into the year.

Dickens classis story follows: “…reared in the marshes of Kent by his disagreeable sister and her sweet-natured husband, the blacksmith Joe Gargery, the young Pip one day helps a convict to escape.

Later he is sent to live with Miss Havisham, a woman driven half-mad years earlier by her lover’s departure on their wedding day. Her other ward is the orphaned Estella, whom she is teaching to torment men with her beauty. Pip, at first cautious, later falls in love with Estella, to his misfortune.

Prince of Persia Review

Prince of Persia

The fact that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is opening on the same weekend as Sex and the City 2 got me thinking about mash-ups.
Imagine, if you will, Jake Gyllenhaal‘s buff boy-toy Prince Dastan matching wits with Kim Cattrall’s wily cougar Samantha Jones. Or Gemma Arterton‘s Princess Tamina and Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw going on a shopping spree for Manolo Blahnik sandals at the local bazaar. And there are a few things Cynthia Nixon’s Miranda Hobbs could teach Ben Kingsley’s power-crazed Uncle Nizam about letting your work dominate your life…read more [cbs.ca]

Inspired by Jordan Mecner’s video games, the story is set in ancient Persia and revolves around a scrappy street kid named Dastan (Will Foster) who’s adopted by the King Sharaman (Ronald Pickup). Dastan quickly grows up, the adult version played by Gyllenhaal. Raised alongside the King’s real sons, belligerent Tus (Richard Coyle) and the more sensible Garsiv (Toby Bebbell), and shown the tricks of the trade by his dad and uncle Nizam (Ben Kingsley), Dastan grows determined to show off his newly formed skills. He does this by leading the attack on Alamut, the city thought to be hiding major weapons (a not-so-subtle modern day Iraq parallel) but instead holding a much bigger secret, the mystical Sands Of Time (hence the title) which reverse, well, time. We’re off to the races when Dastan manages to grab the ancient glass dagger that holds the key to the Sands, but soon the King is killed and Dastan is wrongly accused of the deed. On the run he hooks up with the lovely Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) who, because of a proud family history, has a vested interest in protecting the dagger. Together they fight off numerous enemies, finally leading to an inevitable confrontation with the person really responsible for the King’s murder…read more [BoxOfficeMagazin]
