Mike Myers

Mike Myers will host the MTV Movie Awards on June 1.

The ‘Shrek’ star is looking forward to taking charge of the Los Angeles ceremony – which distributes awards including Best Screen Kiss and Best Villain – because he thinks it will be a fun event.

mtv_awards1.jpgHe said: “Hosting the MTV Movie Awards is like a party, but without having to do beer runs in your mom’s mini van. We do beer runs in Will Smith’s four-storey motor home.”

This will not be the first time the 45-year-old actor has hosted the awards.

In 1997, he presided over the ceremony where winners included Tom Cruise and Claire Danes.

Previous hosts of the awards include Will Smith, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Last year’s host, comedian Sarah Silverman, caused controversy when she made jokes about troubled 26-year-old singer Britney Spears.

She said: “Britney Spears is amazing. She is in her twenties and she has already accomplished everything she’s going to accomplish in her life. It’s mind blowing!

“And have you seen Britney’s kids? Oh my god, they are the most adorable mistakes you will ever see! They are as cute as the hairless vagina they came out of.”

Nominations for the awards, which will be held in Universal City, California, will be announced next month.
