“Descent 2″ First Look

“Descent 2″

The first photo of one of the cave crawlers (Adam Harvey) from “The Descent 2” has hit the webs. According to Fangoria, all the original cast of the first film have returned for the sequel.

Director of the original, Neil Marshall, is not helming this time around, but instead serving as executive producer.

“It was about two years ago that Celador Films producer Christian Colson told me there was a good chance of a sequel and asked if I wanted to direct it,” said Marshall. “As far as I was concerned, ‘The Descent’ sewed everything up on my own creative terms. At the end of the day, it was going to be another film set in caves with Crawlers, and did I want to revisit that again so soon? The answer was no. I felt the ingredients that made the first film work so well needed to be reinvented by someone else.”

“The Descent 2″ begins with a confused, traumatized Sarah emerging from the Appalachian mountain caves where she confronted frightening foes: the Crawlers and her darkest dreads. With no rational explanation of what exactly happened or why she’s covered in blood, the police force her back into the subterranean depths to help locate her five missing girlfriends. But as the rescue party enters further uncharted territory, gradual flashbacks start haunting Sarah as shocking memories return. Only she begins to realize the full horror of their futile mission-and only she knows what lurks to trap them in the eerie shadows of the labyrinthine warrens.

Some might wonder why she’s alive at all, considering that Sarah was left to the claws of the Crawlers at the conclusion of the film’s British cut (a bleak finale excised in the U.S. edition).

Shauna Macdonald said:

“Yes, we do pick up from the American ending [where Sarah survives]. So Sarah is very much back and we see her going back and her journey again. I have to say, I think it looks awesome. Jon Harris, who’s directing is doing an amazing job.”

Guy Ritchie Directing “Sherlock Holmes”

Posted by Allan Ford 4 June, 2008 (1) Comment

Guy RitchieGuy Ritchie has signed on to write and direct a reimagination of Sherlock Holmes for Warner Bros.
The film will based on Lionel Wigram’s forthcoming comic which reinvents Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic 19th century detective character as a more action-oriented creation. Some of Holmes’ more eccentric abilities such as boxing and swordfighting come into play much more.

Holmes has been portrayed on film and TV more than any other fictional character, with more than 75 actors having played the London detective in 200 films and TV shows since 1900.

Ritchie will rewrite and polish Michael Johnson’s script. Neil Marshall (”The Descent,” “Doomsday“) was previously on board to direct.

‘Doomsday’ Movie Trailer

Posted by Allan Ford 19 January, 2008 (0) Comment

Neil Marshall who directed two of the best British horror/sci-fi films in recent memory, ‘Dog Soldiers’ and ‘The Decent’ returns with a post-apocalyptic vision of the future in ‘Doomsday.’

‘Doomsday’ movie still

In this trailer it starts with a strong nod to ‘28 Weeks Later’ as a virus ravaged Scotland is sectioned off to avoid contaminating the rest of the UK, not a bad idea?

Marshall’s love of James Cameron comes to the fore as heroine Rhona Mitra leads a crack team into the forbidden zone many years later in search of a cure in sequences ‘inspired’ by Aliens.

Then the whole thing goes a bit ‘Mad Max’ as a vagabond band of ’survivors’ lead by Malcolm McDowell go mental and much mayhem ensues.

Looks pretty decent, despite some wooden turns by the largely British cast, judge for yourself.
