Nicole Kidman to Star in Dusty Springfield Biopic
Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman is to star in a film based on the life of British pop icon Dusty Springfield, entertainment industry press reported on Friday. The 40-year-old Australian actress will also produce the biopic, Daily Variety reported, adding that it was one of two films on Springfield currently in the works in Hollywood.
Springfield, who died in 1999, enjoyed huge success throughout the 1960s with a string of hits including “I Only Want to Be With You,” “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” and “The Look of Love.”
Springfield’s success masked a troubled personal life however that saw her battle mental illness and drug and alcohol problems. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995, four years before her death.

Tom Cruise’s Son Connor to Appear in Film

The 13-year-old son of Tom Cruise, Connor is following in his father’s footsteps.
Connor Cruise, the adopted son of Tom Cruise and ex-wife Nicole Kidman, has a minor, non-speaking part in the upcoming Will Smith drama “Seven Pounds,” a spokesman for Columbia Pictures confirmed Tuesday.
Connor Cruise shot his part over two days more than a month ago, playing Smith as a young man and mostly shown in photographs.
The movie, which is still in production, co-stars Rosario Dawson and is directed by “The Pursuit of Happyness” filmmaker Gabriele Muccino. The drama follows the story of a man who affects the lives of seven strangers.
Calls and e-mails to publicists for Kidman and Tom Cruise were not immediately returned Tuesday.
Cruise and Kidman also have an adopted daughter, 15-year-old Isabella. Kidman is pregnant with her first child with hubby singer Keith Urban.
Nicole Kidman: Wants To Make Teen Films
Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman told on Wednesday, she hopes to make more movies aimed at teenagers.
Nicole Kidman, who was in a news conference in Tokyo to promote the Japanese premiere of “The Golden Compass” told, “A lot of the films that I have made are adult films”.
Kidman, 40, is pregnant with her first biological child with husband Keith Urban, a country singer. She has two adopted children with her former husband, actor Tom Cruise.
Nicole Kidman said, “I think once you have children, occasionally you want to make films that they can take their friends to”.
Kidman told, her goal would be to perform in movies that appeal to both boys and girls of around 15 years old. She added, “It’s fun. It requires different skills”.
She has performed different roles including Stanley Kubrick’s sexually charged thriller “Eyes Wide Shut” and Lars von Trier’s minimalist “Dogville.”
Nicole Kidman won a best actress Oscar in 2002 for “The Hours” in which she portrayed English novelist Virginia Woolf. She was also nominated for an Academy Award the previous year for her role in the musical “Moulin Rouge.”
Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks to present Oscars
Nicole Kidman and Tom Hanks have been named among the stars who will hand out this year’s Oscars.
The ceremony will also include musical performances by Amy Adams and Jon McLaughlin from the movie Enchanted.
TV comedian Jon Stewart is hosting this year’s awards. It is the second time he has fronted the event.
Other actors who will be handing out gongs include Forest Whitaker, Dame Helen Mirren, James McAvoy, George Clooney and Cate Blanchett.
There had been fears that the awards show would have to copy the Golden Globes’ lead and downsize its ceremony due to the WGA strike.
However, the show’s producer Gil Cates claimed that the awards would run as normal despite the delays.
He said: “We are behind in the writing, but we’ll catch up. It’ll be there. You’ll hear words. I promise.”
The Oscars take place on February 24.
