New Photos From Neil Marshall’s Centurion

Today we have new images from Neil Marshall’s epic action film “Centurion.

Synopsis: The British-set sword and sandals thriller, set during the Roman invasion of Britain in AD 117, details the story of Quintus Dias, sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, who marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon.

“Centurion” stars Olga Kurylenko (Hitman, Quantum of Solace), Michael Fassbender (Hunger, 300), Dominic West (Punisher: War Zone), Noel Clarke, JJ Feild and Riz Ahmed. It is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters later this year. [source: /FilmEmpire]

Ian Dury “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll” Biopic On The Way

The cast of the Ian Dury biopic, “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll,” is growing. Naomie Harris, Ray Winstone, Olivia Williams, Noel Clarke, Toby Jones, MacKenzie Crook and Bill Milner have all signed on to star in director Mat Whitecross‘ biopic of punk legend Ian Dury. Harris (Pirates of the Caribbean) has signed to play Dury’s girlfriend, and Winstone (The Departed) will play the singer’s father.

Naomie HarrisArthur Darvill, James Jagger, Tom Hughes, Shakraj Soornack, Clifford Samuel and Joe Kennedy are also on board to play Dury’s band members the Blockheads.

The film will focus on the musical career of Dury (singer of the British band Ian Dury and the Blockheads), his influence as one of the pioneers of the New Wave movement, and his battles with polio and cancer, which led to his death in March of 2000. In addition to their hit songs like “Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick” and “Reasons to be Cheerful, Part 3″, the title of this based off of Dury’s hit single “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll”.

Paul Viragh penned the script, Damian Jones is producing and shooting begins on May 3rd in London.

Centurion Behind The Scenes

Guys over at RottenTomatoes launched exclusive behind the scenes video for new fantasy adventure “Centurion” which is directed by Neil Marshall (”Doomsday,” “The Descent“) and based on a script he wrote.

Based on the legend of the Ninth Legion, an army of 3000 unstoppable Roman warriors who vanished without trace, Centurion is the tale of their vicious conflict with a murderous adversary, the Picts. Quintus Dias (Michael Fassbender), a Roman corporal, is taken hostage by the Pict King, Gorlacon and the Ninth are charged with bringing him home and ending Pict domination of Britain. Led by General Virilus (Dominic West) and guided by a Pict prisoner and warrior woman named Etain (Olga Kurylenko), the army marches towards enemy territory and finds itself in the midst of a perilous battle with a mysterious foe.

“Centurion” which stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko, Imogen Poots, David Morrissey, Noel Clarke, JJ Feild, Paul Freeman, Lee Ross, Ulrich Thomsen, Riz Ahmed should be released end of 2009.

BAFTA Unveiled Rising Star Nominees

The Rising Star nominees were unveiled at BAFTA’s London headquarters on Thursday.

The nominees are Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Hall, Michael Cera, Noel Clarke and Toby Kebbell.

A jury, led by producer and chair of BAFTA, David Parfitt, and industry figures including casting director Fiona Weir, and actors James McAvoy and Kelly Macdonald, selected the five nominees from a long list of recommendations put forward by the film industry and BAFTA members. The Rising Star nominees must have featured in a film that has been entered for this year’s British Academy Film Awards.

Rebecca Hall is nominated twice on the BAFTA longlists, for her lead role in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and supporting turn in “Frost/Nixon,” which were revealed earlier this week.

Michael Fassbender is longlisted for his arresting portrayal of Irish Republican prisoner Bobby Sands in “Hunger” which won the Camera d’Or prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2008 for Best First Feature.

Toby Kebbell

Doctor Who’s Noel Clarke (33) who will play in “Heartless” (2009) and “Doghouse” (2009), “RocknRolla” star Toby Kebbell (26) played in “Dead Man’s Shoes” (2004) and “Control” (2007) has new role in “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” (2010) and Michael Cera (20) from “Juno,” “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” and “Extreme Movie” who will star in “Paper Heart,” “Youth in Revolt,” “The Year One,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and “Arrested Development” in 2009, complete the shortlist.

This is the fourth edition of the prize, which was created in honor of the late casting director Mary Selway.

The winner, who will be decided by a public vote via Orange’s website or via text, will be unveiled at the BAFTA awards ceremony, which takes place on February 8, 2009.

Previous winners are Shia LaBeouf, Eva Green and James McAvoy.
