Barbra Streisand furious over son’s Bush role

Posted by Allan Ford 2 February, 2008 (0) Comment

Barbra StreisandBarbra Streisand is reportedly furious that stepson Josh Brolin is to play the lead role in a forthcoming biopic of US President George W. Bush.

The National Enquirer claims that the singer, a staunch Democrat supporter, pleaded with Brolin not to appear in the Oliver Stone-directed film.

A source said: “Barbra thinks this movie will show a side to George W. Bush that draws sympathy from the public and she does not think Bush deserves anything positive.

“She is very passionate about politics. She’s mortified that America would think anyone in her family was right wing.”

The insider added: “Josh is not backing down. The chance to work with Oliver Stone is a tremendous break for [him].”

The No Country for Old Men star is the son of James Brolin, whom Streisand married in 1998.

Oliver Stone to make ‘fair’ movie about George Bush

Posted by Allan Ford 23 January, 2008 (0) Comment

Oliver StoneDirector Oliver Stone, who has made movies about Presidents John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, is developing a project about the current occupant of the White House, but promises it will not be a hatchet job, Daily Variety reported on Sunday.

Stone is in talks with Josh Brolin, who is starring in “No Country For Old Men,” to play the title role in “Bush,” the trade paper said. He is shopping the script to financiers and hopes to start production by April, with a release date in time for the election in November, or the inauguration of Bush’s successor in January.

Stone told Daily Variety that he planned to make “a fair, true portrait” of Bush, focusing on such areas as his relationship with his father, President George H.W. Bush, his wild youth, and his conversion to Christianity. “It will contain surprises for Bush supporters and his detractors,” said Stone. He said Brolin was better looking than Bush, “but has the same drive and charisma that Americans identify with Bush, who has some of that old-time movie-star swagger.”

Strike Deal Can’t Save ‘Pinkville’

Posted by Allan Ford 7 January, 2008 (0) Comment

PinkvilleDespite an agreement between United Artists and the WGA coming into play that’ll allow the former to resume production/s again, Oliver Stone’s war pic “Pinkville” – which UA was shepherding – is still on hold – and by the sounds of it, it might stay on pause.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a well-placed source said that “Pinkville” would remain in turnaround despite any interim agreement UA inks with the WGA. That’s at least partly because cast who had been attached to the Stone project have since moved on to other productions.

“Pinkville” was to star Bruce Willis, Woody Harrelson and Channing Tatum. A WGA deal with UA would be notable because it would represent a first film company deal and allow UA to get cracking on new script development and execute any necessary rewrites on active projects.
