Unknown’s Jaume Collet-Serra Directs Red Circle Remake
Unknown‘s director Jaume Collet-Serra locked to direct Red Circle, a remake of the 1970 Alain Delon crime thriller Le cercle rouge. Johnnie To was previously set up to direct the same.
The thriller ‘Unknown,’ starring Liam Neeson, opens this weekend, gets its international premiere in Berlin today and Deadline reported that the film’s director Jaume Collet-Serra was making a deal to direct Red Circle remake. Based on the 1970 Jean-Pierre Melville-directed ‘Le Cercle Rouge,’ the script for the remake is being written by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises).
Collet-Serra is also at the center of a Warner Bros deal for Harker, a possible franchise he will direct that relates to vampire hunter Jonathan Harker character from Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula,’ produced by Leonardo DiCaprio among others.
Rob Zombie to Direct The Lords of Salem This Spring
Rob Zombie will be sitting in the director’s seat for The Lords of Salem, and a planed date to begin shooting is early this spring.
This is the third title from the Haunted Movies banner (the first, a house thriller Insidious will be released this April and the second one is a still shooting Sci-fi The Bay), a partnership between the U.K.’s Alliance Films and Paranormal Activity producers Jason Blum, Oren Peli and Steven Schneider. Announcement lined up for the European Film Market in Berlin.
The thriller takes place in a present-day Salem, Massachusetts, where the residents are disturbed by a satanic gathering of 300-year old witches. Zombie will write the script while on his upcoming concert tour, and will film next year. He originally marked the Salem several years ago, but started again when he changed his plan to direct a remake of The Blob. He made the deal with Haunted Films because he liked the autonomy.
What excited me most was Jason saying, you can have total control over the script, casting and final cut. I said I’m in.”
ABC Orders Six Drama Pilots
ABC’s executives are picking up six drama pilots, including Mark Cherry’s Hallelujah, Mark Gordon’s Identity and Once Upon a Time, Edward Kitsis/Adam Horowitz’s Lost. Also on ABC’s slate are Oren Peli/Steven Spielberg’s The River, co-produced by DreamWorks TV, Darren Star’s Good Christian Bitches and Revenge co-produced by Twilight producer Temple Hill.
It looks like ABC is in the way to be good again, gathering ideas from producers who’ve led them to success in the past.
“Hallelujah,” gives the impression of being a small town version of Cherry’s Desperate Housewives hit and ABC programming chief Paul Lee was quickly moved it with a pilot order. “Hallelujah” takes place in the town of Hallelujah, Tenn., which is seriously damaged by the forces of good and evil. Its fortunes change when a stranger comes to town, bringing justice, peace and possibility of keeping the faith and hope.
“Once Upon a Time” is also a small town drama, centering on a woman with a troubled past who moves to Maine wanting to keep it secret only to find that her new home is a place where fairy tale magic just may be real. Creators/executive producers Kitsis & Horowitz recently wrote TRON: Legacy for Disney and are awaiting approval from Universal for Ouija script.

Paranormal Activity 2 Review
Paranormal Activity 2 is the Prequel / Update to last years blockbuster hit Paranormal Activity. In this film we get a background on what led to the events in the first film. We have the two characters from the first film Katie & Micah and also Katie’s family…her sister, brother-in-law, niece, nephew, their dog, niece’s boyfriend and of course the Demonic force with a bit more attitude this time around. This was filmed in the same first person perspective as the first one with footage from security cameras. It has a bit more shock value than the first, but I don’t think it really surpasses the first film scare wise.
The people behind PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 clearly learned a lesson from the debacle of BLAIR WITCH 2: BOOK OF SHADOWS; they’ve hewed scrupulously close to the original film in style and tone. The result is probably the best true sequel that could have been made to PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, without avoiding the pitfalls that come with creating a close-but-not-too-close approximation of a singular success…read more [Fangoria]
