The Power of the Dark Crystal Movie Details
Yes, we all know that a lot has changed with The Dark Crystal during the time, but still, it’s nice to hear that the project is moving forward.
So, maybe Genndy Tartakovsky is no longer attached to direct Power of the Dark Crystal, but earlier announced Peter and Michael Spierig could be just the perfect choice.
The Spierig Brothers recently appeared at a convention in Australia, where they talked about their approach to the film, and we’re here today to share some new details with you. But before that, let us all remind some official sequel facts…
“Set hundreds of years after the events of the first movie when the world has once again fallen into darkness, Power of the Dark Crystal follows the adventures of a mysterious girl made of fire who, together with a Gelfling outcast, steals a shard of the legendary Crystal in an attempt to reignite the dying sun that exists at the center of the planet.”
The film will be titled The Power of the Dark Crystal, and as we said, Peter and Michael Spierig (best known from titles like Undead and Daybreakers) are in charge for directing it, although “Samurai Jack” creator Genndy Tartakovsk was previously attached to the project. Screenplay’s written by Australian Craig Pearce (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet) based on an original script by Annette Duffy and David Odell.
The Dark Crystal Sequel In 3D
We all remember the 1982 Jim Henson film The Dark Crystal, right? Well, guess what, this classic is finally getting a sequel.
Now, it’s going to be Power of The Dark Crystal and it will be a stereoscopic 3D film made by Australia-based Omnilab Media in partnership with The Jim Henson Co.
Let’s start our little chat with information that brothers Peter and Michael Spierig are in charge for directing the sequel…

A vampire by the name of Charles Bromley (Sam Neill) is the head of a company that specializes in farming humans for their blood. The problem is that humans are nearing extinction and there aren’t that many of them left to farm. To keep his company afloat, he enlists the help of a scientist named Edward (Ethan Hawke) to come up with a blood supplement. Time and time again, Edward (poor choice of name) attempts to find another way of nourishing the vampire race, but fails…read more [BadGuyWins]
Usually guts and gore isn’t my thing. Horror films often fill me with concern over who is going to clean up the mess and as such, I tend to leave the more gnarly film reviews to our resident horror hound Sebastian Cordoba. I must admit I was fearful – blood-sucking films are a dime a dozen at the moment and I was afraid that this film would simply be a shameful grab for a bite of the vampire pie. But thankfully Daybreakers is a shining light in this rather dimly lit genre…read more [TheVine]
