Rob Marshall To Direct “Pirates 4″

Posted by Fiona 3 August, 2009 (1) Comment

Jerry Bruckheimer revealed earlier that filming on the fourth instalment of “Pirates Of The Caribbean” will start next year, with Johnny Depp lined up to reprise his Captain Jack Sparrow role.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Gore Verbisnki, who directed the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy, will not return to helm “Pirates 4,” in order to adapt video game “BioShock” into a movie.

So, Walt Disney Pictures and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have been looking for his replacement by meeting with a number of directors in the recent weeks. Disney has contacted director Rob Marshall about directing the next  movie.

Rob Marshall is currently in final negotiations to take the job and get the film in front of the cameras by next year, before Depp goes off to make “The Lone Ranger.”

Marshall directed Oscar-winning musical “Chicago,” “Memoirs of a Geisha,” and currently is working on adaptation of Broadway musical “Nine,” which stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson and Sophia Loren. The film will be released on November 25, 2009.

And even though Marshall is not officially confirmed, the studio says that things looks good enough that it has already started to cast new “Pirates Of The Caribbean 4” characters.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Shooting Next Year

Posted by Fiona 24 July, 2009 (5) Comment

Oren Aviv, Disney’s Head of Production, has confirmed that “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” will begin shooting next year with an anticipated release in 2011. The producer spoke to the guys over at ComingSoon.net at this year’s Comic Con about future Disney projects.

Johnny Depp As Captain Jack Sparrow In Pirates of the Caribbean

“We’re going to shoot ‘Pirates 4′ in April and May of next year,” Aviv told. “We are going to release it hopefully in 2011 is the plan.”

“It’s important to get the story right and it’s important to me to scale it down, because we can’t get bigger. The movies have subsequently gotten bigger and bigger and very complicated and they were satisfying on so many levels obviously, but I want to kind of reboot the whole thing and bring it down to its core, its essence, just characters.”

As we earlier wrote, Gore Verbinski, the director, informed Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer that he will not be directing the fourth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. Still no word on whether Gore Verbinski might come back for the fourth movie.

Pirates 4 Priority Over Lone Ranger

Posted by Fiona 11 June, 2009 (3) Comment

Johnny DeppProducer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that the studio is eager to make “Pirates Of The Caribbean 4” with Johnny Depp before he stars as Tonto in a new “Lone Ranger” movie.

He has said that a new “Pirates Of The Caribbean” movie is a “priority” for Disney!

Bruckheimer said that the original writers, Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot, were “writing ‘Pirates’ as we speak,” and he said it was “funny” and a “whole new way of going” although he wouldn’t share more than that.

“It’s a great franchise for them and for us, too,” Bruckheimer said,

“We love the character and Johnny was really excited about coming back to Captain Jack. He certainly is interested in Tonto, but Disney’s priority is to get Pirates made first. You never know what’s going to happen, but they would like it.”

Earlier, we wrote that Gore Verbinski informed Disney that he will not be the direcor of the fourth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. Instead, Verbinski wanted to make a live-action adaptation of the bestselling video game “BioShock.”

But Verbinski recently announced that he may not direct a movie based on the video game. In an interview, ComingSoon.net asked Bruckheimer if there was a chance he might return for a fourth movie – “You never know. He created the franchise so we’d love to have him back, but it’s kind of up to him,” the producer said.

Posted by Fiona 8 April, 2009 (4) Comment

Keira Knightley said she had “completely fantastic experience” with Pirates but “it’s time to do different things.” Now “Pirates of the Caribbean” director Gore Verbinski tells the same.

Gore Verbinski, Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnny Depp on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean

“I had a fantastic time bringing Pirates to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team. I’m looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future.”

Verbinski has informed Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer that he will not be directing the fourth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. Instead, Verbinski will be moving onto the live-action adaptation of the bestselling video game “BioShock” that has a John Logan script. The movie is expected to begin production in 2010.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel is in development but not yet greenlit. Nobody knows how Verbinski’s decision will affect the movies’ schedule.
Verbinski is still working with Johnny Depp, though. He has been directing “Rango,” a CG-animated film for Paramount Pictures, with Depp voicing the title character.

Keira Knightley Done With Pirates And Elizabeth Swann

Posted by Fiona 13 March, 2009 (5) Comment

Keira Knightley said MTV News (September, 2008) that she has no idea what’s going on with the new installment and she thinks “it’s time to do different things.” Fans were very disappointed that Keira won’t back in “Pirates of the Caribbean 4.”

But Knightley recently spoke with Moviefone and we could say that she just confirmed that she is done with the role of Elizabeth Swann and Pirates movies.

Keira Knightley

“It was a completely fantastic experience, and it was an amazingly large portion of my life, but I don’t think I need to go there again. I think that it’s done. But I’m very excited to see the next one. And Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow is so wonderful in that character. I think it’ll be wonderful.”

Keira Knightley has signed up to appear in Mark Romanek’s sci-fi project “Never Let Me Go.” Knightley will star alongside Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan in the cloning-themed movie.

Knightley also is attached to play Zelda Sayre, author and wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald, in “The Beautiful and the Damned” which will centre on the couple’s troubled relationship. Pirates of the Caribbean Writer Terry Rossio Clears Up Pirates 4 Rumours

Posted by Allan Ford 15 October, 2008 (3) Comment

Terry Rossio, co-screenwriter of the first three “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, has made an announcement and denied the circulating rumors about “Pirates of the Caribbean 4.”

For the record, none of the recent Pirates 4 rumors have any truth, including the so-called record 50 million dollar payday for Depp.

Some pretty funny stuff, though. Sacha Cohen? Tim Burton? Studios are way too protective of their franchises for that sort of thing.

The only thing that has been officially announced so far is that Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth film.

The only thing we know for sure is that Johnny Depp is returning for a fourth adventure.

Pirates 4: Is Johnny Depp Worth $55 Million Dollars?

Posted by Allan Ford 6 October, 2008 (2) Comment

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Walt Disney Company is lobbied hardcore to get Johnny Depp to reprise his role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” . In order to woo Johnny back into Capt. Jack’s boots, Disney reportedly offered a booty of $55 million dollars which, the report states, he gladly accepted making Depp the highest paid actor in Hollywood

A source said:

“It’s a hell of a lot of money for one movie but there’s only one man who can play Captain Jack Sparrow – and that’s Johnny Depp.”

“Pirates just wouldn’t be the same without him, so they were more than willing to smash the record books to land Depp again. He’s been the star of the show every time.”

Thanks to his latest deal with Disney, Johnny Depp has leapfrogged past Will Smith to become the top-earning star in Hollywood. According to Forbes magazine, Smith was last year’s top earner – taking home an estimated $80 million overall. Depp already was No. 2, at $72 million, but now the actor will clearly move into the lead. According to a Disney source who spoke to this column, Depp’s agreement to make a fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, star as Tonto in the new big-screen “The Lone Ranger” and portray the Mad Hatter in director Tim Burton’s new “Alice in Wonderland” will put the popular star on top.
