Batman movie “The Dark Knight” will make its U.S. debut in a record 4,366 theaters on Friday, which could push it past the 100 million U.S. dollar mark on its opening weekend, industry watchers said. Topping that blockbuster figure would push “Dark Knight” into rare air seen by only 10 other wide-release movies including “Spider-Man 3” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”

Posted by Allan Ford 10 May, 2008 (0) Comment

verbinskibioshock.jpgDirector of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy Gore Verbinski, will be returning to the sea, but in a different kind of way, as he has signed up to direct the game to movie adaptation of BioShock. It is believed to be the biggest game-to-movie deal since 2005, when Universal and Fox signed onto the Halo movie, which is still not moving forward.

Though no release date has been set, Verbinski said he plans to start pre-production as soon as Aviator writer John Logan’s script is finished and approved.

BioShock has sold more than 2 million units worldwide since its release in August 2007 and has been praised for its morality-based storyline, immersive environment and Ayn Rand-inspired dystopian setting. A sequel to the game, BioShock 2, is planned for a release in 2009.

Posted by Allan Ford 8 April, 2008 (0) Comment

Orlando BloomOrlando Bloom - The Pirates of the Caribbean star has landed the lead role in Disney’s Prince of Persia in a deal worth a reported £20 million ($40 million). The 31-year-old Brit beat Zac Eferon and real life Prince David K. Zandi, who campaigned for the role by circulating a poll among movie goers which appeared to place him as audience favourite.

The new films, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and based on the hit computer game Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, will be the third hit trilogy for Bloom, who also starred in the Lord of the Rings movies.

But…  CominSoon say:

A rumor is spreading fast through the Internet (we believe it originated at World Entertainment News Network, aka WENN) that Orlando Bloom has landed a $40 million payday to star in a movie trilogy based on the “Prince of Persian” video game. The rumor stated that he had beaten competition from Zac Efron to take the role and even said that Jerry Bruckheimer will direct.

Walt Disney Pictures, however, tells ComingSoon.net that there is no truth to these rumors.

What we do know so far is that Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) is expected to start shooting Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time soon at Pinewood Studios in the UK and in Morocco as well. Jerry Bruckheimer instead is producing the film, which the studio is targeting for a June 19, 2009 release.

Where and what is the truth ?
