Angelina Jolie in Talks to Star in Ridley Scott’s “Gucci”
According to Variety, Angelina Jolie is in talks with Ridley Scott to play Patrizia Reggiano in his upcoming film “Gucci,” a true-life drama about murder, decadence and the turbulent relations in and around the Gucci fashion dynasty. Scott has approached his “Body of Lies” star Leonardo DiCaprio to play Maurizio, but he is not attached at this point.
The studio is looking to hire a scribe to re-write the drama that recaptures the glamorous days of the Gucci family dynasty in the 1970s and ’80s, when the family was selling $500 million in product annually. Squabbles hobbled the clan until Maurizio, the grandson of founder Guccio Gucci, came out on top of a power struggle to run the family business. Just when he was about to reestablish the brand name by debuting a line designed by newcomer — and now film director — Tom Ford, Maurizio was gunned down in front of his Milan apartment in 1995.
Leonardo DiCaprio And Ridley Scott Team For “Brave New World” Adaptation
Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio will team up for an adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s 1931 novel “Brave New World.”
The novel has had numerous TV adaptations, but this will be its first outing on the big screen. Scott will direct from the script by Farhad Safinia (”Apocalypto”).
DiCaprio will play the main character in the story, Bernard.
The book takes place in the seemingly perfect 26th century world that has achieved harmony by tightly controlling birth, which takes place mainly in laboratories, and outlawing family. The society is split into five clearly-defined castes which determine height, intelligence and prospects.
Bernard is a member of a lower-caste and he is in love with Lenina. Things get complicated when “the leaders of the society find his behavior antisocial.”
DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way owns Huxley’s book. Scott and DiCaprio will also work as producers on the movie.
Production is expected to begin when Scott finishes work on “Robin Hood” and DiCaprio ends filming on sci-fi action “Inception.”
Ridley Scott to Direct Alien 5!
Variety is reporting that Ridley Scott will direct “Alien 5” movie.
It is Ridley Scott’s first return to the Alien franchise after 30 years. His movie spawed three sequels, 1986’s “Aliens” (directed by James Cameron), 1992’s “Alien 3″ (directed by David Fincher) and 1997’s “Alien: Resurrection” (Jean-Pierre Jeunet). There has also been two Alien vs. Predator movies.
“Alien”, a new 20th Century Fox film eyes a 2011 release and is set to be a prequel to the 1979 science fiction horror film starring Sigourney Weaver. It will precede that film, in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them.
Jon Spaihts (”Passengers,” “Shadow 19″) has been hired to write the screenplay. He is also rewriting “The Darkest Hour” for “DayWatch” director Timur Berkmambetov, and writing “Children of Mars” for Disney.
Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper In The A-Team
Liam Neeson (Taken) is in talks to star as Col. John “Hannibal” Smith in 20th Century Fox’s big screen adaptation of the “The A-Team” TV series. Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) is also in early talks to play Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck for the film.
Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces) will direct the film. Carnahan and Brian Bloom refined a script by Skip Woods (G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, Wolverine).
The story keeps the premise of the classic 80’s series but will take a more serious tone with the story of four war vets wrongly convicted of armed robbery escape from a military prison to become mercenaries helping the impoverished.
With the casting confirmation of the two characters, there are only two major roles left to be filled, Capt. “Howling Mad” Murdock and Sgt. “B.A.” Baracus. The B.A. part has previously been linked to Hip-Hop artist-turned-actor Common, but no official announcement has been made for the speculation.
Tony Scott Confirms “Alien” Prequel, Carl Rinsch Directing
A couple of days ago an assumed rumor started at BD saying 20th Century Fox was prepping another Alien film, one that would reboot the popular sci-fi franchise with Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and Tony Scott aboard to produce and Carl Eric Rinsch set to direct.
Tony Scott was recently at a press conference for his latest film, “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3″ and Collider approached him with the ever-burning question of the “Alien” remake and, more specifically, of whether Rinsch would take over from his brother Ridley at the helm of the film.
Collider: 20th Century Fox is talking about remaking or redoing the original Alien. What’s going on with that?
Tony Scott: Yes, Carl Rinsch is going to do the prequel to Alien. He’s one of our directors at our company.
Collider: I’m going to be blunt about this. Fox has not been doing a great job recently with their movies. They haven’t been an artist friendly studio. Are you guys going to have some creative control and make this a kick-ass film?
Tony Scott: Yes! But Fox is our home. They finace our production company.
Tony Scott was not able to say whether the “Alien” would be ready for the summer of 2011, but do keep an eye on this space for updates on this one.
Fox is also developing a Predator reboot, which Robert Rodriguez is attached to direct.
Russell Crowe As Robin Hood First Look
Thanks to USA Today we have the first photo of Russell Crowe in costume on the set of Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood.
He did it finally – lose enough weight and looks like Maximus and even his Gladiator haircut is the same. Crowe toplines the movie, which is a retelling of the origins of the key characters of the Robin Hood legend.
“He doesn’t have the old Robin Hood tights. He’s got armor. He’s very medieval. He looks, if anything, more like he did in Gladiator than anything we’re used to seeing with Robin Hood,” producer Brian Grazer says.
“Oddly, it’s a metaphor for today. He’s trying to create equality in a world where there are a lot of injustices. He’s a crusader for the people, trying to reclaim some of the ill-gotten gains of the wealthy. That’s a universal theme,” Grazer added.
The movie also stars Alan Doyle (lead singer of Great Big Sea), Kevin Durand (”Lost”, The Blob in the upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) and Scott Grimes (”ER”).They will play three of Robin Hood’s Merry Men in the now untitled Hood pic. Cate Blanchett will play Maid Marian.
Grimes would play Will Scarlett, a skilled swordsman and Hood’s nephew, Durand is Little John, Hood’s right-hand man and Doyle is Alan a Dayle, who in lore was a roving minstrel and needed help when his love was being forced to marry another man.
Actors who have previously played Robin Hood on film include Errol Flynn, Sean Connery and Kevin Costner.
“Robin Hood” is in theaters May 14th, 2010.
Allan Doyle, Kevin Durand and Scott Grimes Are Robin Hood’s Merry Men
Ridley Scott has recruited Alan Doyle (lead singer of Great Big Sea), Kevin Durand (”Lost”, The Blob in the upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) and Scott Grimes (”ER”) to play three of Robin Hood’s Merry Men in the now untitled Hood pic that stars Russell Crowe.
Crowe toplines the movie, which is a retelling of the origins of the key characters of the Robin Hood legend. Cate Blanchett is on board as Maid Marian.

Cate Blanchett As Maid Marian in Ridley Scott’s “Nottingham”?
Mark Strong revealed that Ridley Scott’s “Nottingham” will finally begin filming this Spring. He then confirmed that Sienna Miller will no longer play Maid Marian, but refused to reveal her replacement. “I’ve heard rumors but I can’t tell you. I’ll get in trouble,” he said.
Now, “Nottingham” appears close to getting back on track with the news that Cate Blanchett is in talks to play Maid Marian opposite Russell Crowe as Robin Hood.
“I think Cate Blanchett is set to take the Maid Marian part. She is a wonderful actress and it would make it a much classier film if she was in it,” Strong, who will play Guy of Gisbourne in the Robin Hood tale told The Telegraph.
“We’ve been waiting all last year but it’s pretty much ready to go at the end of March beginning of April,” he said.
According to rumors, filming was further delayed to allow star Russell Crowe to lose enough weight.
Strong added that the script has also changed since its beginning.
“There was an identity swap between the Sheriff of Nottingham and Robin. This has slightly changed now,” he explained. “There is a case of mistaken identity but it’s more (about) Russell’s Robin, than the Sheriff.”
Ridley Scott is Directing “Monopoly”!
A movie based on the popular board game by Parker Brothers, “Monopoly“, is moving forward and Ridley Scott has now been officially confirmed as the director.
The British director wants to give the Hasbro-Universal film a futuristic feel like his 1982 work “Blade Runner,” Reuters reports. He is also producing with Pamela Pettler ( Corpse Bride, Monster House and upcoming Nine)
Games and branded items, like Monopoly and Transformers, are said to be increasingly attractive to studios as they already have built-in audiences, helping to minimise risk.
Other Hasbro games are also making their way to the big screen. Platinum Dunes is producing its feature adaptation of Ouija Board, while the maritime classic Battleship is also in development at Universal.
Ridley Scott To Direct “The Forever War”
Ridley Scott will direct an adaptation of Joe Haldeman’s 1974 science fiction novel “The Forever War.”
The project marks the British filmmaker’s return to the science fiction genre. He previously helmed “Alien” in 1979 and “Blade Runner” in 1982.
“The Forever War” focuses on a soldier who fights an enemy in outer space for only a few months and returns home to a planet he doesn’t recognize some 20 years later.
Ridley Scott intended to follow “Blade Runner” and “Alien” with “The Forever War,” but rights complications delayed his plans for more than two decades.
“I first pursued Forever War 25 years ago, and the book has only grown more timely and relevant since. It’s a science-fiction epic, a bit of The Odyssey by way of Blade Runner, built upon a brilliant, disorienting premise,” Scott told Variety.
Scott, whose “Body of Lies” was released Friday, next plans to direct “Nottingham,” starring Russell Crowe, the thriller “Child 44,” for which Richard Price just penned a script, and “Gucci,” about the fashion family and murder of Maurizio Gucci.
