G.I. Joe Crash in Prague

Seven people injured on the set of “G.I. Joe” on Saturday. A collision between a bus and several cars occurred in the center of Prague, police and emergency services said.  Video seen on the private Nova television channel showed the bus, and then other vehicles, being hit by an all-wheel-drive vehicle that appeared to have braking problems. “It happened in a closed area that was rented out to the filmmakers for the weekend,” said Prague police spokeswoman Eva Brozova. Jirina Ernestova, spokeswoman for the emergency services, said the injured were treated in hospitals in the Czech capital. “According to my information, there were only slight injuries,” said David Minowski from the local production house Stilling Films.

Directed by Stephen Sommers, “G.I.Joe” — starring Channing Tatum, Dennis Quaid and Sienna Miller — is a live-action feature based on the eponymous action figure that is due out in August 2009. In April 2002, a stuntman from the United States was killed in Prague during the filming of the Rob Cohen action film “Triple X”

Cohen: Mummy 3 Trailer Coming Soon

By Allan Ford | Feb 19, 2008 | Movie News (0) Comment

THE MUMMY:TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPERORDirector Rob Cohen continues to keep us up to date on The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The man behind the third film in the franchise has once again updated his official website, giving us a hint that we can expect a trailer on the official site within a month. Before giving his update, I should warn you that Cohen gives more spoilerish details as he’s been doing in the past on the blog.

Joel, Kelly and I continue with the editing process. The film is running 2 hours and 5 minutes long and strong and we continue to refine it in preparation for our first studio screening February 28th. Here all the Universal execs will get to see it unveiled for the first time. I have taken many of them into my confidence already showing large swaths of the movie to Marc Shmuger, the chairman, Donna Langley, the president of production and Jeff Kirschenbaum the senior v.p. Everyone has been really stoked. Whew!

We should have the teaser trailer out within a month and, hopefully, you will find it as exciting as I have dreamt this year of work to be.

I will talk to Universal about premiering the teaser here on my blog so that you, who have showed so much interest in my film, will get to see it first. I’ll let you know what they say.

The visual effects work is going on apace. We have nine finals at this point out of 800 shots. Sounds dismal and hopeless, but this is how vfx work goes: the first 50% of the time on 10% of the shots and the second 50% on the 90%. There is so much R & D going in defining the visual rules for each fantasy creature, object, or landscape (what does Shangri-la look like?) that the refinement of this first 100 shots defines all the rest. Once the aesthetics and methodology are set, the production pipelines are refined and the work begins to accelerate.
