Robert Downey Jr Punch Gone Wrong On Sherlock Holmes Set
It’s been a couple of weeks since we’ve heard anything on the progress of “Sherlock Holmes,” re-imagining of the world’s greatest detective. The Sun is reporting that the Guy Ritchie-directed movie has had a few problems on set, two of which almost caused Robert Downey Jr to be seriously hurt.
While filming of a fight scene, Downey was knocked unconscious by a 7-foot, 330lbs co-star Robert Maillet (wrestler Kurgan-WWE). Downey was “out cold” for six seconds and “drooling blood” before medics could bring him round.
Source added:
“He didn’t want to go to hospital and kept trying to get up. He’s a trooper. But there have been lots of other problems too,”
However Downey Jr.’s condition wasn’t the only issue director Ritchie has had to contend with - the movie has reportedly been plagued by various other setbacks. One incident on Friday left the cast and crew running for safety after a petrol tanker burst into flames during a delivery to the set, closing down production for two hours, according to Britain’s The Sun newspaper.
Aimed for a November 20, 2009 U.S. release, ” Sherlock Holmes” reportedly is based on Lionel Wigram’s upcoming comic book and centers on the adventures of the famed 19th Century detective. Apart from Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, this action thriller film will also see Rachel McAdams as she takes on the role of Irene Adler, Holmes’ love interest.
“The Soloist” And “Defiance” Moved To 2009
Paramount Picture is moving “The Soloist” starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. from November 21, 2008 to March 13, 2009. So, the movie is without any hope for Academy Awards 2008.
TV spots for “The Soloist” have already aired nationally and trailers had been placed in front of “Eagle Eye.”
“We decided it’s a commercial movie that will play well in the spring, and we’ll give it an aggressive wide release then,” Paramount Pictures vice chairman Rob Moore said.
Studio also moved Edward Zwick’s “Defiance,” starring Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber, to a 2009 wide release. The film, which was scheduled to open December 12, 2008 will be released on January 16, 2009.
In its old date, “Defiance” would have gone up against “Doubt,” “The Reader” and “Frost/Nixon.”
“The Soloist” was set to open wide in a very crowded frame - “Twilight” and “Bolt.”
Paramount is clearly throwing its Oscar campaign money at Sam Mendes‘ “Revolutionary Road” starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, David Fincher’s “The Curious Life of Benjamin Button” starring Brad Pitt and Ben Stiller’s comedy “Tropic Thunder” with Robert Downey’s supporting performance in the movie.

Eddie Marsan Joins “Sherlock Holmes” Cast
Eddie Marsan has been cast opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes.” Rachel McAdams, Jude Law and Mark Strong are already among the Sherlock Holmes cast.
Marsan will portray Inspector Lestrade, a Scotland Yard detective and ally of Holmes.
Marsan, whose credits also include “Happy-Go-Lucky,” “Miami Vice,” “Mission: Impossible III” and “Hancock” said:
“I’m doing Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. I play Inspector Lestrade. Holmes describes him as a man with no imagination.”
Speaking about how the movie will differ from previous incarnations, he added:
“Holmes and Watson are a lot younger, bohemian. It works. Reading the script, Robert Downey Jr. is just perfect for a modern-day Holmes. Also he’s a bit of totty, as well!”
Jude Law in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes
Jude Law is in talks to join Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Watson in “Sherlock Holmes” the drama that Guy Ritchie will direct.

Law is expected to finalise a deal to portray the famous Baker Street detective’s sidekick Dr. John H. Watson.
Ritchie’s film will take inspiration from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic novels and Lionel Wigram’s comic book series.
Guy Ritchie is eyeing his “RocknRolla” star Mark Strong for the role of the antagonist Blackwood.
Production begins early next month in London and Sherlock Holmes is scheduled for release in 2010.
