The AIDS drama The Normal Heart based on the Larry Kramer‘s Tony-winning semi-autobiographical play of the same name, got a big boost after two big-name stars and two recognizable faces signed on to star in the drama: Oscar winner Julia Roberts, Emmy winner Alec Baldwin, Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) and Matt Bomer (White Collar) will be joining the still attached Mark Ruffalo in the film.
Ryan Murphy Will Direct The Normal Heart Starring Mark Ruffalo
Last month we reported that Mark Ruffalo is all set to star in Larry Kramer’s adaptation of his semi-autobiographical play The Normal Heart.
So, you probably remember that Glee creator Ryan Murphy had been rumored as possible director.
Today, we’re here to make the whole thing official, and to report that Murphy has signed on to direct this adaptation!
Let us remind you that the play “focuses on the rise of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City between 1981 and 1984, as seen through the eyes of writer/activist Ned Weeks (Ruffalo), who founded a prominent HIV advocacy group.
Mark Ruffalo in The Normal Heart
Mark Ruffalo is set to star in Larry Kramer‘s adaptation of his semi-autobiographical play The Normal Heart.
And, straight from The Kids Are All Right star comes an information that this upcoming project has some interesting names involved, like Glee creator Ryan Murphy (although we still don’t have any idea whether he’s involved as producer or director), while Kramer is scripting the adaptation.
So, this quite interesting project is set during the early days of the AIDS epidemic, and “is the impassioned story of Ned Weeks. The play is a moving denunciation of the ignorance and fear that lead to the worldwide plague that now exists.
Its companion play, The Destiny of Me, continues the story of Weeks, now in a hospital undergoing treatment, as he finds himself confronting his life and fighting to get a little more time among the living.”
Ruffalo looks very excited about this project, and here’s what he had to say about it:
“It’s basically a story of when the AIDS outbreak happened in New York. It wasn’t really taken seriously, I think specifically because it was ‘the gay cancer,’ they called it.

Today we have the first trailer for the upcoming Julia Roberts drama Eat, Pray, Love.
Eat, Pray, Love is based on the best-selling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, published back in February of 2006, about one woman’s year-long journey around the world and into her soul.
By the time Elizabeth Gilbert turned thirty she had everything an educated, ambitious American woman was supposed to want — a husband, a house, a successful career. But instead of feeling happy and fulfilled, she was consumed with panic, grief, and confusion. She went through a divorce, a crushing depression, another failed love, and the eradication of everything she ever thought she was supposed to be. To recover from all this, Gilbert took a radical step. In order to give herself the time and space to find out who she really was and what she really wanted, she got rid of her belongings, quit her job, and undertook a yearlong journey around the world — all alone.
