Spielberg’s DreamWorks to remake ‘Yomigaeri’

A new remake of a Japanese smash hit is in development over at DreamWorks and it’s a horror movie with a sci-fi element, but the horror elements aren’t really scary. Variety is reporting that Yomigaeri, a fantasy based on Shinji Kajio’s novel has had its rights acquired from Tokyo Broadcasting System by the house that Spielberg built. William Nicholson (”Gladiator“) is writing the screenplay while DreamWorks is eyeing a late 2008 start date.
A quick synopsis of the original film:
A boy who died during World War II turns up at the door of his now-ancient mother, looking the same, down to his burr haircut, as he did 58 years ago. Heita (Tsuyoshi Kusanagi), an elite bureaucrat for the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry, is called in to investigate and is flummoxed by what he discovers. But when he discusses the case with Aoi (Yuko Takeuchi), a colleague and childhood friend, she is brusquely dismissive. The number of cases keeps growing, however.
‘Star Trek’ Release Date Pushed Back to 2009
Bad news came from the much anticipated sci-fi “Star Trek” as it was said that the fans have to wait longer to watch the J.J. Abrams’ movie. Reports claimed that the release date of the sci-fi adventure film has been pushed back from December 25 to May 8, 2009 by Paramount Pictures.
Variety reported that Paramount reasoned that the move was part of a major reshuffle in the Paramount and DreamWorks’ release date schedule. The studio further claimed that the shuffling of the date was made because the film is potentially will gross higher if set for summer release. By releasing it on May 8, “Trek” has yet to have strong competitors. But, the film will be opened a week after and before the release of action fantasy “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and drama thriller “Angels & Demons” respectively.
On the bad news, Slash Film took the positive insight. The movie site reported that the change on the schedule can possibly be a good thing as J.J. Abrams and his crew have more time to do a couple re-shoots, to make some changes on the script and to work on the computer generated effects. The site noted that the director/producer has been frustrated on the set because he was unable to rewrite the script on spot due to his contract with the WGA.
New Star Trek Movie Plot Details
![]()
Some significant plot information regarding the new Star Trek movie has come our way. If you read Screen Rant regularly, you’ll recall that back in October they stated that there would be Klingons in the new film. This was supposedly debunked by other sites, but lo and behold, a few days ago a slip of the lip by Anton Yelchin who plays Chekov in the Star Trek 11 apparently confirmed that Klingons will indeed appear in the film.
Well now S.R. come across some new information about the plot regarding the USS Enterprise, the timeline aspect of the film, and a whopper of a plot spoiler that’s so huge that I have decided not to reveal it.
Before I go on I want to say that I know we’re all hungry for information on Star Trek (as well as other sci-fi and fantasy movies), but I think that sometimes we can tend to get carried away and end up taking away some of the joy of seeing a movie for the first time by knowing too much about it when we finally sit down to watch it….
