Sharlto Copley and Michael Nyqvist In Sebastian Cordero’s Sci-Fi EUROPA
I love sci-fi. When it’s reasonable, of course. I mean, I do like planets and stars and stuff, except when they’re green and when they smell or taste bad.
So, thank God I’m here to report that something interesting is coming and this time I’m talking about a project which comes from director Sebastian Cordero, with simple but catchy title – Europa. What’s catchy about that, I have no idea, but I still think it sounds good.
Wagner Moura to Play Villain in Elysium
Wagner Moura, best known for playing Colonel Nascimento in the kickass Brazilian films Elite Squad 1 and 2, will be playing a smart, wicked villain with a biting sense of humor, in Neill Blomkamp’s thriller Elysium.
Young Moura is the latest addition to the sci-fi project, being made by MRC. He’ll star opposite Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley and presumably Jodie Foster. Sony will theatrically release high-profile picture on March 8, 2013, in time to take advantage of Easter holiday.
Elysium is “an unabashedly big movie”, and has the same social metaphor of District 9. Damon will be playing an ex-convict and is also revealed that social classes play a major role in the world. Everything else is hidden under blankets. The film will begin pre-production in April and start shooting in Vancouver this July before moving on to shoot in Mexico City in the autumn.
Jodie Foster’s Role in Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium Isn’t Yet Locked
Last month we heard some rumors about Jodie Foster and her possible involvement in an upcoming Neill Blomkamp‘s project titled Elysium that already stars Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley.
Today, the actress has denied she is involved with the movie. Or, at least, not at the moment.
“Actually, I’m not on that movie! I don’t know how that got out there,” Foster said in an interview with Empire, and added:
“Well, I’m not on it, but I’m not booked or involved in a deal yet. People want to jump the gun on Neill because he’s the new David Fincher or whatever. And I get why – I love him and District 9 was my favourite film of 2009. But we’re just not at that time in the process yet…”
Matt Damon in Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium
Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium is coming and according to the newest reports, Matt Damon is in early negotiations to star in it, together with District 9 star Sharlto Copley.
And that’s basically all we had chance to hear about this “secret” project, although “the story is said to take place on another planet in the distant future.”
Still, let us remind you what director Blomkamp shared with us over the past year:
”…I’ve got one science fiction idea that I’m absolutely in love with, which I’m pretty sure is going to be my next film. 99% sure…It’s totally original, it’s my own story…It’s set on another planet, but it’s cool. It’s violent, very violent, and very unique hopefully. We’ll see…
Gemma Arterton, Alec Baldwin and Sharlto Copley Join Men In Black 3
Ok, today we’re here to expand our little chat about the upcoming third installment in the mega franchise that began in 1997. You guessed it well.
Men in Black 3 is coming, and we already know that director Barry Sonnenfeld has confirmed Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones’ involvement in the new sequel.
Then, the film landed Jemaine Clement, Josh Brolin and Emma Thompson.
But, some new stars are reportedly in negotiations to join the cast as well: Gemma Arterton, Alec Baldwin and Sharlto Copley!
The A-Team Review
If you’ve never seen, or just can’t remember, The A-Team telly show which ran for five seasons in the mid 80s, it doesn’t matter. Director and co-writer Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smokin’ Aces) begins by explaining how these four military operatives, Hannibal (Liam Neeson), Face (Bradley Cooper), B.A. Baracus (Quinton Jackson) and Murdock (Sharlto Copley) meet and end up working together. It’s all very contrived, an early warning of how much The A-Team tests the limits of reality, both with the storyline and its improbable stunts.
The desire to capitalize on the success of the original “A-Team” is understandable, as is the failure to transpose its mix of hyperbolic action and cheesy humor to the big screen. The show’s pilot featured a chase sequence on a movie back lot in which Peppard, as the group’s leader, Hannibal Smith, sits in a convertible driven by Mr. T while dressed in a rubber reptile suit and smoking a stogie.
Top that, Mr. Carnahan! He can’t, partly because what made “The A-Team” work — heroes who at once embrace and lampoon the tough-guy persona and the accompanying genre fixings — is such a familiar strategy, from the late James Bond films through the “Indiana Jones” franchise, “Hellboy” and almost every show on the USA Network…read more [The New York Times]

20th Century Fox has released a Sizzle Reel and three clips from The A-Team.
The A-Team follows a group of Iraq veterans who is sentenced to prison for a crime they did not commit. Managing to escape from a maximum security facility, they are still wanted by the U.S. military after a year passed. The film will feature their adventures which combine helping the innocent while running from the law.
