Finally, Twentieth Century Fox has released the first official movie photo from James Cameron‘s highly anticipated sci-fi epic “Avatar.” This is our first look at Sam Worthington in the movie and don’t forget to enlarge it.

James Cameron announced at Comic-Con that August 21st will be “Avatar Day.”

Actually, on August 21, the world will get its first look at “Avatar,” when Twentieth Century Fox and Cameron debut the film’s trailer everywhere.

The worldwide trailer launch will be presented in all formats, including IMAX 3-D, IMAX 2-D, digital 3-D, digital 2-D, and 35mm 2-D. The trailer will also be available online.

The extended look at “Avatar” will unspool only on August 21st and only in 3-D in select theaters and IMAX.

Avatar” director James Cameron announced at Comic-Con today that August 21st will be “Avatar Day.”

Here is the official press release and footage from 20th Century Fox about “Avatar Day” for James Cameron’s Avatar:

On August 21, the world will get its first look at director James Cameron’s motion picture epic AVATAR, when Twentieth Century Fox and Cameron debut the film’s trailer everywhere – while select cinemas and IMAX® theaters will screen extended footage prepared by the renowned filmmaker for this global “Avatar Day” event.

The worldwide trailer launch will be presented in all formats, including IMAX® 3-D, IMAX® 2-D, digital 3-D, digital 2-D, and 35mm 2-D. The trailer will also be available online.

The extended look at AVATAR will unspool only on August 21 – and only in 3-D – in select theaters and IMAX®. Details on locations and reserving tickets for this extraordinary and unprecedented experience will be announced soon.

In addition on the 21st, Ubisoft® will unveil the trailer for their videogame James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, and Mattel will reveal the action figures for the film’s Avatar and alien Na’vi characters.

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption, discovery and unexpected love, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. ComingSoon has just posted a photo of the “Avatar” banner that is now flying over the San Diego Convention Center and which gives us our first look at the face of a Na’vi alien from James Cameron‘s highly anticipated sci-fi epic.

The film tells the story of an ex-Marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival.

AVATAR: First Footage and Photos

James Cameron premiered a 24-minute footage from his highly anticipated sci-fi epic “Avatar” at Cinema Expo in Amsterdam. According to Cameron much of the 24-minute footage came from the first third of the film, but also some battle scenes from later in the film. Cameron also stated that he hopes theater owners will convert to 3D as soon as possible, but also notes that “Avatar” will work on any screen.

Six images from the video game based on James Cameron‘s upcoming 3D film “Avatar” have been revealed today. Using the same designers and artists on both projects, the landscapes feature lush rainforests with 1,000 foot-tall trees, floating mountain ranges and massive stone arches.

Shortly after its publication, DiCamillo’s book drew the attention of four-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gary Ross. The two had one great thing in common: They both had a knack for telling stories about the most unlikely of heroes. For years, producer/writer Ross’ specialty has been discovering the relatable values and humanity of underdogs: a crippled horse who achieves greatness in “Seabiscuit,” a guy who becomes his better self by finding the boy inside in “Big,” and an everyman who redeems the decency of the Oval Office in “Dave.” When his wife, fellow producer Allison Thomas (“Seabiscuit”), brought the book to his attention, Ross felt the modern fairy tale would make a wonderful CG-animated movie. avatar posterIMAX Corporation and Twentieth Century Fox today announced that they have reached agreement on material terms to release the highly anticipated 3D motion picture Avatar in IMAX(R)3D simultaneously with the motion picture’s premiere in conventional 3D theatres on December 18, 2009. Avatar is directed and written by Academy Award Winner James Cameron and stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver. Cameron will also produce with his Lightstorm Entertainment partner, Jon Landau. Avatar will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience(R).
