In 2007, the “Star Wars” fans rejoiced as it was reported that George Lucas is prepping to bring his blockbuster film series to the small screen in the form of 3-D CGI animated. As the series is nearing its premiere date, StarWars.com reported that the big screen version of the 3-D toon entitled “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” will hit North American theaters on Friday, August 15.

Partnering with Warner Bros. Pictures and Turner Broadcasting System Inc., Lucasfilm Ltd. have developed the project to precede the television series debut in the fall on Cartoon Network and TNT cable channel. The big screen animated film is claimed to be the beginning of the 30-minutes all-new ‘mini-Star Wars-movie’ to be air on the silver screen following the theatrical release. Further, Variety reported that the animated movie that runs around 100 minutes, will tell the Star Wars’ story in between episode II and III in which Anakin Skywalker has yet to become Darth Vader.

On the upcoming movie, Lucas revealed that he believes there are a lot of ‘Star Wars’ stories that are left to tell. He said, “I felt there were a lot more Star Wars stories left to tell. I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the art of animation forward.” Additionally, Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution, expressed his excitement on the upcoming film stating, “This is a breakthrough project — returning Star Wars to the big screen in a completely new way while beginning an exciting new chapter in George Lucas’ legendary saga. We immediately felt that it would be a fantastic theatrical event and are thrilled to be bringing it to moviegoers.”
