How Hollywood is Destroying My Childhood One Film at a Time

By Allan Ford | Aug 23, 2011 | Movie News (1) Comment

Boy Cry at Desk

I grew up in the 80s-90s. Memories of my childhood include watching Saturday morning cartoons, being amazed and frustrated by my NES and reruns of classic sitcoms and TGIF. I was (and still am) and avid reader, and devoured just about anything I could get my hands on.

I was a bit too young for Generation X and bit too old for Generation Y – I’m not really sure what that makes me, but here I stand another cog in the corporate machine. Things started off so slowly I chose to write it off at first. Hollywood was rewriting my childhood. Yet what started off as a trickle has turned into a veritable avalanche and it seems no cherished memory is safe.

The Biggest Movie Mistakes And Most Mistake- Ridden Movies of 2010

By Nick Martin | Jan 7, 2011 | Movie News (1) Comment

Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2 has been named the most mistake-ridden movie of 2010 in website Moviemistakes.com end of the year poll!

Moviemistakes.com was created by Jon Sandys in 1996, and dedicated to the recording of mistakes found in movies and TV. As of 19 October 2010 it currently lists more than 89,706 mistakes, of which over 7,500 have pictures.

The question is why are there mistakes in movies?

Well, those who made the film have been buried in the material, occupied for a great length of time, from months to years depending on the production. They often are focusing on the “big picture”, so details can get by them. And mistakes, goofs and glitches creep into every production, just waiting to be spotted.

The A-Team Review

The A-Team

If you’ve never seen, or just can’t remember, The A-Team telly show which ran for five seasons in the mid 80s, it doesn’t matter. Director and co-writer Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smokin’ Aces) begins by explaining how these four military operatives, Hannibal (Liam Neeson), Face (Bradley Cooper), B.A. Baracus (Quinton Jackson) and Murdock (Sharlto Copley) meet and end up working together. It’s all very contrived, an early warning of how much The A-Team tests the limits of reality, both with the storyline and its improbable stunts.

The desire to capitalize on the success of the original “A-Team” is understandable, as is the failure to transpose its mix of hyperbolic action and cheesy humor to the big screen. The show’s pilot featured a chase sequence on a movie back lot in which Peppard, as the group’s leader, Hannibal Smith, sits in a convertible driven by Mr. T while dressed in a rubber reptile suit and smoking a stogie.

Top that, Mr. Carnahan! He can’t, partly because what made “The A-Team” work — heroes who at once embrace and lampoon the tough-guy persona and the accompanying genre fixings — is such a familiar strategy, from the late James Bond films through the “Indiana Jones” franchise, “Hellboy” and almost every show on the USA Network…read more [The New York Times]
