Joss Whedon on The Avengers
Ok, we can relax now! Black Widow or, if you prefer lovely Scarlett Johansson, will be the only female Avenger, but it’s not like she’s going to be the only female character in the upcoming Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers!
And this update comes straight from director, so take it as an official thing. Check out the rest of details that Whedon shared with all of us:
“It is true that the movie is only going to have one female avenger,” he explained. “But she will not be the only female character.”
Let’s guess, Pepper Potts from the Iron Man franchise, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, or… Betty Ross, the love interest of Bruce Banner played by Liv Tyler in The Incredible Hulk?
Or perhaps, Natalie Portman’s character from Thor, or maybe even Jane Foster?
Edward Norton Confirms He Will Not Play Hulk in The Avengers
So, we already know that The Incredible Hulk star, Edward Norton, is no longer attached to the upcoming Marvel Studios’ project The Avengers.
In the last couple of days we had a chance to hear a lot of rumors about the whole thing, indeed. But today, we’re here to share Norton’s statement, posted this Monday on his Facebook page.
“As most of you know, I don’t like to talk much about the business of making movies because it means a lot to me to protect the audience’s fullest enjoyment of the ‘magic’ that films can have. But I am so appreciative of the outpouring of support from fans of the Hulk and the Avengers that I feel it would be rude not to respond. So here goes:
It seems it won’t work out for me to continue playing Bruce Banner for Marvel in ‘The Avengers.’ I sincerely hoped it could happen and be great for everyone, but it hasn’t turned out as we all hoped. I know this is disappointing to many people and that makes me sad. But I am very sincerely grateful to Marvel for extending the offer and even more so for giving me the chance to be a [part] of the Hulk’s long and excellent history.
Joaquin Phoenix as Hulk in The Avengers?
We all remmember that “retired” handsome “rapper,” Joaquin Phoenix, right? Yeah, he’s that two-time Oscar nominated actor as well!
Now there’s a rumor he’s back and that he has been offered the part of the Hulk in Marvel’s forthcoming superhero project The Avengers. Shocked? Well, at least you must admit that it is kind of strange to see guy like Phoenix in the role previously played by Edward Norton…
So, Edward Norton was all set to reprise the role of Bruce Banner a.k.a The Hulk, but then we heard he would not be back for the new film due not to monetary factors, but, as Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege explained:
“The company wants an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members.”
However, Norton’s agent called his comments “unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory.”
