THE LONE RANGER Is Back

By Fiona | Oct 13, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

The Lone RangerI know you’re going to love this news, and that’s exactly why I’m here today! Remember that The Lone Ranger project guys?

Remember all the budget problems this project was dealing with? Well, guess what! It looks that the whole thing is back on! As the matter of fact, it’s officially back on, and folks from Walt Disney Studios are ready to “ride” again, together with director Gore Verbinski, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnny Depp, only this time at a lower budget.

Yeah, we knew there was something! We must admit that previously reported $250 million budget was a little bit… absurd? Anyway, Variety reports that Verbinski, Bruckheimer, and stars Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer will all take 20% paycuts; although certain payments will be deferred until The Lone Ranger starts making money.

That basically means today we have a new deal – a budget closer to $215 million and zeroed in on a new release date! And again – it’s official – Disney’s Lone Ranger has set a May 31st, 2013 release date , with its production start delayed from November to February. Of course, Bruckheimer Films will be responsible for any cost overruns.

Ruth Wilson

Time for a little The Lone Ranger update. Finally, we’re here to add one lovely lady to this long-waited project, and trust us, this sounds quite interesting! British actress Ruth Wilson is currently in negotiations to star as the female lead in the upcoming Gore Verbinski‘s project that we already wrote about.

If negotiations work out, Wilson will join the cast that already includes Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.

Yeah, I’m sure you all agree this cast is great. As we previously reported, Armie Hammer is on board to star as the Lone Ranger, Johnny Depp will be his side-kick Tonto, while Wilson comes in to play a character named Rebecca.

Armie Hammer Joins Johnny Depp for The Lone Ranger

By Fiona | May 18, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Armie HammerAn upcoming Disney’s film version of The Lone Ranger definitely has great cast on board. And when we say that, we don’t actually mean we’re (only) impressed with Johnny Depp, who is, as you already know, set to star as the ranger’s sidekick Tonto.

No, because we just learned that The Social Network guy Armie Hammer will star opposite Johnny Depp as well! And that, you must admit, sounds awesome!

So, as you already know, Gore Verbinski is in charge for directing the project which is scheduled to begin production this fall.

The Lone Ranger started as a radio serial and was later turned into a TV series. The Lone Ranger is a masked lawman who, with his Native American friend Tonto, fights injustice. Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels starred in the “Lone Ranger” television series form 1949 to 1957.

Now we’ll have Hammer as the Lone Ranger and Depp as the Lone Ranger sidekick Tonto, but it’s Tonto who will be the heart of the story and the voice of reason. Verbinski previously explained:

By Fiona | Apr 19, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Nick Cassavetes, Ryan Gosling

Ok, this is not fair, but we have to update our previous reports about those two projects. Few days ago we reported that Nick Cassavetes will be in charge for the upcoming biopic Gotti: Three Generations and we had nothing against that decision. But today, we learned that Cassavetes is no longer attached to the project.

And like that’s not enough, we also reported that Ryan Gosling is in talks to join Johnny Depp for the upcoming Disney’s The Lone Ranger, but as you already guess, he’s too busy, as well, and he’s not going to star in it…

Ryan Gosling

What do you think about Ryan Gosling next to Johnny Depp in the upcoming The Lone Ranger? Ok, there’s a possibility that Gosling could star in Gore Verbinski‘s adaptation of the durable franchise, but that’s not official at the moment.

On the other hand, we do know that the movie is scheduled to begin production this fall, so don’t worry, we’ll get something new as soon as possible.

Walt Disney Studios held a massive event at the Kodak Theatre in LA, during which the Studios’ chairman, Dick Cook, previewed all of Disney’s upcoming films for the next few years.

Johnny Depp was at the heart of it all.

The actor showed up on stage for a triple announcement which apparently ties him to Disney for some time. That announcement was:

  • That Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean 4.
  • That he will star as The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s next movie, Alice In Wonderland.
  • Depp is officially signed to play Tonto in the The Lone Ranger film and not the The Lone Ranger himself.

During the event, Depp came out to “The Lone Ranger” theme song while wearing his Jack Sparrow outfit along with The Lone Ranger mask and gun.
