Carla Gugino Joins “Sucker Punch”

Carla Gugino Carla Gugino has joined to the cast of Zack Snyder’s fantasy action movie “Sucker Punch.” Gugino last worked with Snyder on “Watchmen,” where she starred as the first Silk Spectre.

“SuckerPunch” which Snyder likes to call “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns” is set in the 1950s and follows Babydoll (Emily Browning) who is confined to a mental institution by her stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days.

While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out.

Gugino will play a nurse in the insane asylum who becomes a madam at a brothel in the film’s alternate reality.

Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone and Abbie Cornish also stars the movie.

“SuckerPunch” begins shooting in early fall in Vancouver and is set to be released on March 25, 2011.

Jamie Chung and Jena Malone Join Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch

Jamie Chung (Dragonball Evolution) and Jena Malone (Donnie Darko) have joined the all-female action cast in Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch.”

Vanessa Hudgens, Emily Browning and Abbie Cornish are also set to star in the film.

Synopsis: Set in the 1950s, “Sucker” centers on a girl confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternate reality to hide from the pain and in that world begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out.

THR says Chung will play Amber, a country girl with a big heart, while Malone will play Cornish’s younger sister. Like everyone else in the film, the two girls will be inmates at a mental instituion.

Emily Browning Stars In Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch

Emily BrowningEmily Browning has replaced Amanda Seyfried in Zack Snyder’s next movie “Sucker Punch.” Seyfried wasn’t able to take on the role due to a scheduling conflict.

Browning, the Australian actress who can next be seen in horror film “The Uninvited,” will take on the lead role of Baby Doll, an insane asylum inmate who loses herself in a fantasy world where she dreams about escaping with her fellow inmates. So, Snyder likes to call the project “Alice In Wonderland with machine guns“.

“Sucker Punch” is set in 1950’s and follows a girl who is confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man.

The action-fantasy film is the first project at Snyder’s new production company Cruel and Unusual Films. Snyder will co-write it with Steve Shibuya, from his own short story, and produce with his wife Deborah Snyder.

“Sucker Punch” which also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Evan Rachel Wood, and Emma Stone is set to be released October 8, 2010.

Vanessa Hudgens in “New Moon”?

Twilight” actress Ashley Greene revealed to MTV that “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” star Vanessa Hudgens has auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater in the “Twilight” sequel “New Moon.”

Greene also added another tidbit on the status of “New Moon” as well.

“I hear they’re doing another rewrite,” the actress revealed of the in-flux script. “I’m with you guys – I’m so excited to read it.”

In other “Twilight” news, the author behind the series of books, Stephenie Meyer, was the biggest selling writer in the US in 2008 selling a massive 15 million books over the year, according to data from Nielsen BookScan US for the year ended 28th December 2008.

In total, Meyer had nine entries in the US top 50, with five different titles, racking up unit sales close to 15 million from the top 50 bestseller chart alone.

Her most recent novel, “Breaking Dawn,” was the bestselling book of the year, selling 3,310,000 copies, followed closely by her debut novel, “Twilight,” with 3,175,000 copies.

Rumours that “High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens would be joining the ‘Twilight’ sequel, “New Moon”, are false.

Now EW says that sources inside film studio Summit Entertainment and close to Hudgens said that the makers of the film were not looking at her for a role in the ‘Twilight’ follow-up.

It says the only actors confirmed for the film are Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

“New Moon” is due to begin shooting shortly.

“High School Musical 3″ Four Character Posters

Disney has released four new character posters for “High School Musical 3“. The images are focused on four of the main characters, Gabriella Montez, Ryan Evans, Taylor McKessie and Chad Danforth, in their graduation robes and completed with the stars’ signatures.

“High School Musical 3: Senior Year” finds high school seniors Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) facing the prospect of separation as they head off to different colleges. Joined by the rest of the Wildcats, they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes and fears about the future. Cast Set For ‘High School Musical 3′

High School Musical 3Disney has finished its deals and will reunite all the key cast members for the feature film release “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” reports the trades.

Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman are locked to return in the big screen incarnation.

Written by returning scribe Peter Barsocchini, “HSM3″ revolves around seniors Troy (Efron) and Gabriella (Hudgens) facing the prospect of being separated from one another as they head off in different directions to college.

Joined by the rest of the Wildcats, they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes and fears about their future.

Kenny Ortega, who helmed the two previous telefilms, will helm the movie which is set to go before cameras in the spring. The project is slated for release on October 24th.
