Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Shooting Next Year

Posted by Fiona 24 July, 2009 (5) Comment

Oren Aviv, Disney’s Head of Production, has confirmed that “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” will begin shooting next year with an anticipated release in 2011. The producer spoke to the guys over at ComingSoon.net at this year’s Comic Con about future Disney projects.

Johnny Depp As Captain Jack Sparrow In Pirates of the Caribbean

“We’re going to shoot ‘Pirates 4′ in April and May of next year,” Aviv told. “We are going to release it hopefully in 2011 is the plan.”

“It’s important to get the story right and it’s important to me to scale it down, because we can’t get bigger. The movies have subsequently gotten bigger and bigger and very complicated and they were satisfying on so many levels obviously, but I want to kind of reboot the whole thing and bring it down to its core, its essence, just characters.”

As we earlier wrote, Gore Verbinski, the director, informed Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer that he will not be directing the fourth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. Still no word on whether Gore Verbinski might come back for the fourth movie.

Posted by Fiona 8 July, 2009 (0) Comment

We already know that McG will direct “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo” for Disney but the news is that the Oscar nominated writer Randall Wallace (”Braveheart,” “The Man in the Iron Mask,” “Pearl Harbor,” “We Were Soldiers“) will rewrite the script penned by Justin Marks (”Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li“) and Bill Marsilii (”Deja Vu“).

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo

This new adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” will tell the origin of Captain Nemo and his submarine warship, the Nautilus. Nemo is a mysterious but noble antagonist in the book, a scientific genius with a thirst for knowledge and a desire for revenge against the forces of imperialism.

The 1954 original “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” was the first live-action film made by Walt Disney, who famously bet his studio on a movie best remembered for the giant squid scene. It became the second-highest grossing film that year and won three Oscars. Captain Nemo played by James Mason and Ned Land by Kirk Douglas.

Posted by Allan Ford 9 February, 2009 (0) Comment

Walt Disney Studios & DreamWorksThe Walt Disney Studios has agreed to a long-term exclusive distribution deal with Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks SKG movie studio.

Under the terms of this arrangement, Disney will handle distribution and marketing for approximately six DreamWorks films each year. The first DreamWorks motion picture to be released under the Touchstone Pictures banner is scheduled to hit theaters in 2010.

Commenting on the announcement, Dick Cook said:

Steven has made some of the biggest and most loved films of all-time, and continues to be one of the great icons of our industry. Stacey has an impeccable reputation and a phenomenal track record for making a wide variety of quality films. Their motion pictures will be the perfect complement to the already robust slate of Disney and Touchstone films being made by Oren Aviv and his team.”
