Martin Scorcese Will Direct Leonardo DiCaprio in THE GAMBLER Remake
I hope Leonardo DiCaprio isn’t addicted as James Caan was battling his own addiction to cocaine at a time when the original film based on the short novel The Gambler by Fyodor Dostoyevsky was filmed.
Tom Cruise Will Star in Oblivion/Horizon
Tom Cruise will star in Oblivion. Or, Horizons. Whatever the title is, it’s the same thing. And it will be directed by Tron: Legacy helmer, Joseph Kosinski.
And, although I’m not really impressed with the whole thing, I do admit that it sounds huge. I mean, the project is now set at Universal with a budget of $100 million. Yeah, definitely a huge one.
Director Krasinski has great team on board for this one. Oscar winning scribe William Monahan (The Departed) penned the screenplay, while Karl Gajdusek was hired to rework the Horizons script.
Oblivion, the 128-page illustrated novel, will be released in Summer 2011 and will feature prose, combined with over 40 fully painted landscape renderings. It will be distributed worldwide through Random House.
According to Deadline, the story takes place in an apocalyptic future where humans have been forced to live in clouds above the uninhabitable Earth below.
F. Gary Gray to Direct Sam Worthington In The Last Days Of American Crime
F. Gary Gray is definitely a busy guy. So as Sam Worthington. Today, we’re here to report that Gary Gray is (indeed) going to direct an adaptation of Rick Remender‘s comic series The Last Days of American Crime and that Wothington is attached to star in it!
Ok, no surprise here, we already had a chance to hear some rumors about this project last year, but now, it’s kind of an official thing.
“A fast-paced, futuristic crime story” – that’s exactly how they describe Remender’s graphic novel. Or, if you prefer more details:
“With one week until the end of all crime in the United States, can the last heist in American history be pulled off? In the not-too-distant future as a final response to terrorism and crime, the U.S. government plans in secret to broadcast a signal making it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts.
To keep this from the public, the government creates a distraction, installing a new currency system using digital charge cards.Enter: Graham Brick. A career criminal never quite able to hit the big score, Graham intends to steal one of the charging stations, skip the country, and live off unlimited funds for the rest of his life. But the media has leaked news of the anti-crime signal one week before it was to go live, and now Graham and his team have just a few days to turn the crime of the century into the last crime in American history.

William Monahan to Adapt Oblivion for Director Joseph Kosinski
The Departed screenwriter, William Monahan will be in charge for writing the script for the graphic novel turned feature from Radical Publishing.
Of course, we are talking about the Oblivion movie, which will be directed by Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski and you must admit that this already sounds like the great team.
Oblivion is “a futuristic science fiction love story that takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where most people live above the clouds, far from the “inhospitable place” that the surface of Earth has become.
An earthbound soldier who repairs drones that patrol and destroy a savage alien race discovers a beautiful woman who crashed in a craft. They take an epic adventure that changes his world view.”
On the other hand, director Kosinski told Comic Book Resources that:
Colin Farrell In London Boulevard – First Look
The first official photo from William Monahan’s London Boulevard is here!
You can already start to enjoy Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley, and we are here to start our little report about this movie, which is actually Monahan’s directorial debut.
Yes, we do know that he is the Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Departed, but this is his first movie, and one reason more for us to chat about his upcoming London-based crime drama.
So, they already describe this as crime-drama-romance film. No wonder when we have this kind of synopsis: “Mitchell is finally free after a stint in prison for assault. A crony offers him a job as a loan-shark enforcer, and though Mitchell isn’t crazy about the idea, he doesn’t have any better offers.
Edge of Darkness Review
“Edge of Darkness” is directed by Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale,” “Mask of Zorro”) who, interestingly enough, is remaking the film from an award-winning six-hour BBC miniseries he directed 25 years ago.
Campbell is working from a screenplay adapted from that series by two seasoned scribes: William Monohan (“The Departed,” another remake transplanted to Boston) and Andrew Bovell (who brought similar, moody twist-turning to 2001′s underrated “Lantana”).
Now 54, Gibson is grayer and grimmer. The part of Craven leaves little room for humor, but the wildness and fire that once exploded unpredictably from Gibson is much dimmed after several hard years for the actor…read more [The Olympian]
Mel Gibson returns to action on the big screen in Martin Campbell’s new thriller “Edge of Darkness,” and while he’s undoubtedly in great shape, the movie itself could do with a little more spice. That said, “Darkness” still qualifies as an entertaining viewing experience I had no trouble enjoying throughout…read more [The Screening Log]
