Gillian Anderson Blames “Dark Knight” For Poor “X-Files” Takings
Actress Gillian Anderson is blaming the popularity of “The Dark Knight” for “The X-Files” film’s low box office grossings.
The “X-Files: I Want To Believe“, starring Anderson and David Duchovny, earned a disappointing $10.2 million in its opening weekend (26-27Jul08) in the U.S., while “The Dark Knight” took an impressive $75 million in the same weekend. And Anderson is convinced that her movie - based on the hit TV show - is suffering because so many people are flocking to see the Batman sequel. She says, “It’s (The X-Files film) had a bit of a rough time in the States. It’s opening against one of the highest grossing movies, Batman.
“People in the States are so used to lots of CGI (computer-generated imagery), action and sex and we don’t really off a lot of that in this film.”

Six new pics have popped online from the upcoming supernatural thriller sequel “X-Files: I Want to Believe” starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
When a group of women are abducted in the wintry hills of rural Virginia, the only clues to their disappearance are the grotesque human remains that begin to turn up in snow banks along the highway. With officials desperate for any lead, a disgraced priest’s questionable “visions” send local police on a wild goose chase and straight to a bizarre secret medical experiment that may or may not be connected to the women’s disappearance. It’s a case right out of The X-Files. But the FBI closed down its investigations into the paranormal years ago. And the best team for the job is ex-agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dr. Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), who have no desire to revisit their dark past. Still, the truth of these horrific crimes is out there somewhere… and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it!
The Chris Carter-directed film is due out July 25th 2008.
