‘X-Files’ Creator Chris Carter Spills Details About Upcoming Film
The truth about “The X-Files” sequel - some of it, anyway - is now out there.”X-Files” creator Chris Carter, writer Frank Spotnitz and other crew members gathered Wednesday to discuss the TV series - and declassify some information about the upcoming film.
The popular Fox paranormal drama, which aired from 1993 to 2002, starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully
“While this is not a mythology movie, it’s true to everything that’s come before,” Spotnitz said at the William S. Paley Television Festival. “It’s true to Mulder and Scully, who they are and where they would be this point in their lives and all of the experiences that they’ve had.”
The series first made the leap to the big screen with 1998’s “The X-Files: Fight the Future.” Plans for another film were grounded in 2005 when Carter sued Fox over syndication profits for the show. The lawsuit was later settled.
Carter, who also directs the new movie, said it takes place in the present and uses a story envisioned when the series ended. While the show’s sprawling alien mythology isn’t part of the plot, Carter said there is a reference to Scully’s seemingly supernatural son, William, who was born in season eight and later given up for adoption.

Filming of The X-Files sequel wraps
The cast and crew of the still-untitled X-Files feature film sequel wrapped up work in Vancouver with a news conference Wednesday, a brief lifting of a curtain of secrecy that the production has maintained through three months of filming.
“It’s been a two-way street,” says writer-director Chris Carter. “To tell you the truth, I would like to make the movie secretly and put it out there on July 25, have everybody get a gift they could open.”

“We’re not doing an exercise in nostalgia to appeal to the fans of the show,” said co-writer and producer Frank Spotnitz,
“We saw this as an opportunity to introduce the characters to people who may have been too young . . . It has a reason for being, even if there’d never been a television show before.”
The new story picks up with the main characters in real time, six years after the events of the series. David Duchovny, who left the series the year before it wrapped, said he always wanted The X-Files to become a feature franchise.
Stars want ‘X-Files’ love scene dropped
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have asked the producers of the upcoming X-Files movie to remove a love scene between their characters.
The duo reportedly want bosses to drop a romantic sub-plot from the film, in which they reprise the roles of FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully from the hit TV show.
A source told the Daily Express: “There was one draft of the script where Mulder and Scully have a bedroom scene but it looks like that has been put on hold.
“David and Gillian are concerned about having the characters involved in some kind of love story, as they feel that was the beginning of the end of the original show.”
The source added that negotiations over the scene were “on-going”.
‘X-Files’ Sequel: Castmembers, Celeb Fans Want More Mulder-Scully Action, Less Black Oil
They’ve been screaming “We want to believe!” for years — but fans of “The X-Files” finally have something real to crow about, with news last month that the seminal TV series is making its way back to theaters in 2008.
“Finally!” is how Nicolas Lea, who played baddie Alex Krycek, reacted to the announcement. “This story had been percolating for a long time. I feel like if this movie has half the quality and integrity of the series, it will pull in not only past fans of the show, but a whole new generation of X-Philes.”
His sentiment was echoed by “Deadwood” alum W. Earl Brown, who made a guest appearance during the final season of “The X-Files.” “As a fan, I spent a year or so after the finale of the series keeping track on the movie’s development,” he said. “So, to hear that it is now actually happening is quite exciting.”
Starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in their familiar roles as Special Agents Mulder and Scully, the first “X-Files” movie opened in 1998. For fans, it seems as if the sequel has been in development hell ever since then, held up because of a contentious legal battle between series creator Chris Carter and Fox. But even with a script finished for years, little is known about the actual plot of the upcoming film.
