“Watchmen” Video Journal #4

Posted by Allan Ford 6 July, 2008 (0) Comment

The fourth Video Journal for “Watchmen” has come online at UGO. Original Watchmen artist Dave Gibbons takes you on a walking tour through the production design of Zack Snyder’s film adaptation.

“Watchmen”

“Watchmen” is a mystery adventure set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” - which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight.

When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the watchmen?

“Watchmen” is scheduled to appear in theaters on March 6th, 2009.

 “300″ movie still

Remember last week’s report that a “300” prequel is in development from interviews coming out of the 34th Saturn Awards? This morning Variety is confirming news that probably won’t surprise anyone. “300″, the graphic novel adaptation that cost virtually nothing to make but grossed over $200 million last spring, is getting a sequel….probably. Legendary Pictures, which is also developing “The Watchmen“, is interested in the graphic novel Frank Miller is currently working on, which may be a prequel or some kind of spinoff. Most of the characters, including Gerard Butler’s King Leonidas, died in the original, making a follow-up tricky.

Zack Snyder won’t officially commit until after he sees Miller’s take, but he’s definitely interested. Legendary considers the project a major priority. Read the rest of this entry

The folks over at Collider got the chance to speak to producers Mark Canton, Gianni Nunnari and Bernie Goldmann during the Saturn Awards, finding out that the trio are working on a new Greek mythology film and a possible “300” prequel.

Canton and Nunnari were having too good of a time to get any solid answers from them, but the site learned that their new movie is “War of Gods,” which is another Greek mythology epic. Two writers already wrote the script, which director Tarsem Singh (The Fall, The Cell) read and agreed to make. They are expecting to begin filming in the first quarter of 2009.
