Check out the new poster for Zhang Yimou’s upcoming Chinese historical drama war film The Flowers of War, about a period which has become historically known as the ‘Rape of Nanking’. In 1937, during the Second Sino-Japanese war, Japanese troops captured the former capital of the Peoples Republic of China and subjected it’s citizens to an unrelenting programme of mass murder, mutilation and rape.

Christian Bale as John Miller and Ni Ni as Yu Mo in THE FLOWERS OF WAR

Los Angeles-based distributor Wrekin Hill Entertainment announced today that the company, in association with Row 1 Productions, will be pushing up the nationwide theatrical release for The Flowers of War, starring Christian Bale and directed by renowned Chinese director Zhang Yimou. The film – a blockbuster in China – will now open on Friday, January 20th, 2012 in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and 10 other cities.

New fantastic trailer for China’s entry into the Oscars this year, Zhang Yimou‘s The Flowers of War, has been revealed.

Great cinematography, music and judging by this trailer also strong performances.

When we add a powerful story about an American man (Christian Bale) who comes to shelter and save a convent of young girls stuck at a church in occupied Nanking, China during WWII we must get a gorgeous movie.

There’s a new poster for The Flowers of War (formerly called Heroes of Nanking), a historical Chinese epic starring Christian Bale and directed by Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers).

The story, based on Yan Geling’s novel The 13 Women of Nanjing, will see Bale as an American priest who shelters a group of prostitutes and female students in his church during the 1937 wartime atrocity known as “The Rape of Nanking”.

Christian Bale will star in a movie Nanjing Heroes, an upcoming project that comes from Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou.

We’re little surprised as well, but we have nothing against this news.

As the matter of fact, it will be quite interesting seeing actor, (who’s currently co-starring in the boxing drama The Fighter) jump into the priest suit.

Yes, you read it correctly, because Bale is set to play an American priest who shelters a group of prostitutes and some young female students in the Chinese city in 1937. Why Bale?

“I gave him the names of some books that he should read about the Nanjing massacre.” the director said.

“When I went to see him, I saw those books were lying open on his table, and I was very touched.”

Bruce Lee Biopic In The Works!

According to Variety, three-part biopic about martial arts legend Bruce Lee is being made through China’s J.A. Media and the co-operation of Lee’s family.

Tony Leung Ka Fai is confirmed to star as Lee’s father. Additional cast not yet been set. A director has yet to be revealed, although Variety claims that Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Curse Of The Golden Flower) has repeatedly shown an interest in bringing Lee’s story to the big screen.
