2012 Academy Awards Nominations Officially Announced

This morning’s announcement of the 84th Academy Award nominations, announced by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak and Academy member and Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence, put Martin Scorsese’s 3-D children’s fantasy Hugo, a vibrant film-history lesson and train-station adventure a top a nine-movie best-picture field with eleven nods. Right behind it, with ten, was The Artist, a silent comedy-drama that recreates Old Hollywood, about a silent-film actor fretting at the dawn of talking movies. The rules changed this year as there is a total of nine Best Picture nominees this year, including The Tree of Life, The Help, Moneyball, Hugo and of course The Artist.
