Robert De Niro is Teaming up with Luc Besson for MALAVITA

De Niro_Besson This isn't a ‘goodfella,' this is a ‘badfella' – the project in question is an adaptation of the 1990 film Goodfellas based on spin-off novel called Badfellas. In addition, Luc Besson film based on a French novel by Tonino Benacquista has cast Robert De Niro who also starred in Martin Scorcese's masterpiece. Let's start at the very beginning: French filmmaker Besson and his EuropaCorp and Relativity Media have struck a co-production/co-financing deal on two films, the first of which is the De Niro-led gangster thriller Malavita. ‘Mala Vita' is Italian and literally means ‘bad life'. Besson (Leon: The Professional) wrote the script and will direct the project about a retired American gangster living with his family under the witness protection program in Normandy. Production is set to start on August 14th in France, which marks the first directorial effort from Besson since last year's The Lady as well as the first time he's worked with De Niro. The other film in the deal is called Three Days to Kill and Besson's company is describing it as in the same vein as Taken, with more humor. Stay tuned. Goodfellas_Badfellas Source: Variety
