Venice 2012: LULLABY TO MY FATHER

"Lullaby to My Father" delicately navigates the emotional labyrinth of family ties and historical legacies. Directed by Amos Gitai, this poignant documentary explores the director's relationship with his father through archival footage and personal reflections, offering a profound meditation on love, loss, and the enduring power of memory.

Lullaby to My Father

I hate lullabies, but this one looks just fine. Simply because it comes from well-known Israeli director Amos Gitai, and (guess that's not hard to guess from the title) represents filmmaker's homage to his father Munio Weinraub.

When I said that this lullaby looks just fine, I actually wanted to say that we also have some great images from Lullaby to My Father which will screen out of the competition at this year's Venice Film Festival. Make sure you check them out…

Lullaby to My Father

So, Lullaby To My Father will actually tell us a story of Munio Weinraub, who was a student at the Bauhaus design and architecture school in the city of Dessau, before Hitler closed the school in 1933. In May 1933, Weinraub was accused of “treason against the German people” and sent to prison and later on expulsed away from Germany. The film follows Munio's route from Poland to Germany, from Switzerland to Palestine.

Lullaby To My Father cast list includes Yael Abecassis, Jeanne Moreau and Hanna Schygulla. I'm sure you already like these great images from the whole thing and at the end, I will just remind add that, beside Gitai's “Lullaby”, five new Israeli films will also be screened at the 69th Venice International Film Festival!

In case you're interested in more details about them all – make sure you stay tuned!
