The Railway Man-Colin Firth

The Railway Man, which is based on the 1995 memoir by Eric Lomax, just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and today we got our first trailer for the film.

Although early buzz hasn't been too kind, it's a movie that is definitely going to be reaching theaters.

Starring Academy Award winners Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, Jonathan Teplitzky‘s new drama does not yet have a U.S. distributor, but will be released in the U.K. on January 3rd, 2014 by Lionsgate.

Firth stars as Eric Lomax, a former prisoner of war during World War II and Kidman portrays his understanding wife who attempts to find a way to relieve his suffering from sever psychological trauma in the present.

The Railway Man takes place in 1980 England and also stars Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) as the young Lomax that chronicles his time at the POW camp, with strong support by Stellan Skarsgard, Hiroyuki Sanada and Sam Reid.

Check out the trailer which gives away most of what happens in the film.

Synopsis:

Based on his best-selling memoir, The Railway Man tells the extraordinary and epic true story of Eric Lomax, a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II. Decades later, Lomax discovers that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him, and his haunting past. Directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, and starring Academy Award-winner Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine, and Academy Award-winner Nicole Kidman, the film is a powerful tale of survival, love and redemption.
