Red Eye: The Airplane Thriller That’s Not Afraid to Keep You Up at 3 AM

A red eye flight turns deadly. Richard Armitage and Jing Lusi star in this airborne conspiracy—and it drops on Hulu this July.

Red Eye

You ever watch a trailer and think, “Yeah, I'm not sleeping tonight”?

That's Red Eye .

Hulu just dropped the official U.S. trailer for their upcoming thriller series, and let me tell you—it's got all the vibes of a middle-of-the-night panic attack disguised as entertainment. Set on a red eye flight from London to Beijing, this thing starts with a British man accused of murder being escorted by a sharp-eyed cop. And then—surprise—it goes sideways fast.

The setup? Solid. DC Hana Li (Jing Lusi) is doing her job, escorting Dr. Matthew Nolan (Richard Armitage), who's been accused of killing some woman he swears he didn't touch. But once they're up in the air, someone decides it's time to start knocking off passengers. Because why not? It's dark. Everyone's tired. No one trusts anyone. Classic thriller fuel.

Now, before you roll your eyes and say, “Another show set on a plane?”—yes. But also, no. This isn't Snakes on a Plane levels of nonsense. It's more like Hijack meets Murder on the Orient Express , but with jet lag and way worse snacks.

Peter A. Dowling wrote this thing. Dude also did Flightplan —the one where Jodie Foster wakes up and her kid's gone. So yeah, he knows how to build tension inside a metal tube hurtling through the sky. He co-wrote this with Jingan Young, and it's directed by Kieron Hawkes and Camilla Strøm Henriksen. Production's outta Bad Wolf and Sony Pictures Television. Big names. High stakes. Hopefully good writing.

Originally aired on ITVX in the UK back in April 2024. Now Hulu's bringing it stateside on July 22nd, 2025 . Yeah, that's right—next year. So we've got a bit to wait. But hey, maybe that gives us time to mentally prepare for six episodes of paranoia and seatbelt signs staying on the whole damn time.

And look—I know what you're thinking. “Is this related to the 2005 Red Eye movie with Cillian Murphy and Rachel McAdams?”

Nope. Different story. Different decade. Same vibe, though. Tense. Claustrophobic. One hell of a mood killer.

I'll be honest, I love these kinds of shows. Give me something that makes me side-eye every passenger on screen. Let me second-guess everyone's alibi. Make me feel like I'm stuck on that flight too. And if Red Eye nails the pacing and payoff, we might have ourselves a sleeper hit.

But here's the catch: If the finale pulls a Westworld and forgets how to end a sentence…

Well, I'll be mad.

Still curious? Damn right.

Let's see what they've got.
